| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends have suffered an immeasurable |

| 6 | 6 | | loss with the untimely passing of Alan D. Vera of Houston on |

| 7 | 7 | | May 4, 2023, at the age of 75; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Before beginning his successful business career, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Alan Vera graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University with a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | bachelor's degree in political and military science; Mr. Vera |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | valiantly served his country as a United States Army Airborne |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Ranger from 1970 to 1974, receiving multiple awards and unit |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | citations for his service; during the Vietnam War, he completed 22 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | nighttime jumps behind enemy lines; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After his military career, Mr. Vera went on to serve |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | as president and chief executive officer of the Quest Business |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Agency, a role he held for nearly four decades; over the course of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | his tenure, he was honored and recognized for his success and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | innovations in his field with numerous accolades, including |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Marketer of the Year by the American Marketing Association and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Vendor of the Year by FedEx Retail Operations; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Vera was one of the original founders of True |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the Vote and had served as the ballot security chairman for the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Harris County Republican Party since 2014; he had worked with |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | members of both chambers to write legislation to improve election |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | integrity and was named Volunteer of the Year for SD 7 by the State |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Republican Executive Committee (SREC); he and his wife, Colleen, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | were honored with the lifetime achievement award presented by the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Harris County Republican Party at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | March 2022; on April 20, 2023, shortly before his passing, he |

| 31 | 31 | | celebrated his birthday in the House Elections Committee; Mr. Vera |

| 32 | 32 | | gave all the credit for whatever good he accomplished in his life to |

| 33 | 33 | | Almighty God; and |

| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Although his journey on this earth ended too soon, |

| 35 | 35 | | Alan Vera passed away doing what he loved, testifying at the Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | State Capitol on election integrity bills; he impacted the lives of |

| 37 | 37 | | everyone around him in ways beyond measure with his compassion, |

| 38 | 38 | | empathy, and kindness, and they will forever hold him close in their |

| 39 | 39 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |

| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
