5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A caring and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Mary Susan Lamb Jenkins of Hankamer on January 30, 2023, |

7 | 7 | | at the age of 91; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Clarence Lamb Sr. and Marguerite |
---|
9 | 9 | | Splane, Sue Jenkins was born on March 19, 1931, in Houston and grew |
---|
10 | 10 | | up sharing in the companionship of three siblings, Clarence, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Michael, and Martha; she graduated from Liberty High School and |
---|
12 | 12 | | continued her education at Sam Houston State University, where she |
---|
13 | 13 | | studied English; she went on to teach at Cedar Bayou Junior High |
---|
14 | 14 | | School, Liberty Middle School, Immaculate Conception Catholic |
---|
15 | 15 | | School, and Anahuac High School, where she also served as a cheer |
---|
16 | 16 | | sponsor; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, On June 28, 1958, she married the love of her life, |
---|
18 | 18 | | Jerry Jenkins, and the couple settled on the Jenkins rice farm in |
---|
19 | 19 | | Hankamer, where they raised their three sons, John, Jerold, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Jay; active in the community, Mrs. Jenkins was a founding member of |
---|
21 | 21 | | the Chambers County Republican Party, and she was also involved |
---|
22 | 22 | | with the Chambers County Republican Women, the Wallisville Heritage |
---|
23 | 23 | | Park, and the Daughters of the American Revolution; with the |
---|
24 | 24 | | passing years, she had the pleasure of welcoming into the family |
---|
25 | 25 | | four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Famous for her rice salad, Mrs. Jenkins was a |
---|
27 | 27 | | skilled cook who never let her family and friends go hungry; in her |
---|
28 | 28 | | leisure time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and watching the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Houston Astros, and she was also a valued member of the Quilt Guild; |
---|
30 | 30 | | moreover, she drew great strength from her Catholic faith; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, While her loss is difficult to bear, Sue Jenkins |
---|
32 | 32 | | leaves behind numerous friends and loved ones whose lives are far |
---|
33 | 33 | | richer for having known her, and she will always hold a treasured |
---|
34 | 34 | | place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Susan Lamb |

37 | 37 | | Jenkins and extend sincere condolences to the members of her |

38 | 38 | | family: to her sons, John Jenkins and his wife, Jacqueline, Jerold |

39 | 39 | | Jenkins and his wife, Alicia, and Jay Jenkins and his wife, |
