5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ruben Esquivel, an Austin-based muralist, canvas |

6 | 6 | | artist, and designer, has distinguished himself through his efforts |
---|
7 | 7 | | to beautify his community and to promote justice and healing |
---|
8 | 8 | | through art; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Austin to parents of Mexican, Spanish, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | Native American descent, Mr. Esquivel was exposed to a variety of |
---|
11 | 11 | | creative outlets while growing up, which influenced his pursuit of |
---|
12 | 12 | | a multidisciplinary art career; he studied art history in Italy in |
---|
13 | 13 | | 2013, before returning to Austin and completing an internship with |
---|
14 | 14 | | a local art collective that led to a full-time position; since then, |
---|
15 | 15 | | he has been involved in many aspects of the creative industry, |
---|
16 | 16 | | including artist management, event production, mural painting, and |
---|
17 | 17 | | graphic design, and he founded a management and consulting business |
---|
18 | 18 | | for artists, East End Eclectic, in 2021; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Esquivel has showcased his skills on works such |
---|
20 | 20 | | as the Protectors of the Red Bluff mural, which is part of a |
---|
21 | 21 | | 900-foot curation of art installations paying tribute to Austin's |
---|
22 | 22 | | Govalle neighborhood; he also created a colorful piece called Seeds |
---|
23 | 23 | | of Change for the Black Lives Matter Mural Campaign, and he was |
---|
24 | 24 | | among the artists who painted individual murals for each of the 21 |
---|
25 | 25 | | victims of the Robb Elementary School shooting as part of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Healing Uvalde mural project; he has collaborated with other |
---|
27 | 27 | | artists on many occasions, including for the design of a floating |
---|
28 | 28 | | installation on Lady Bird Lake with the title Common Waters, which |
---|
29 | 29 | | was commissioned through the Butler Trail Arts and Culture Plan; |

31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Ruben Esquivel has created moving and powerful works |

32 | 32 | | of art that continue to enrich his community, and it is fitting to |

33 | 33 | | recognize this dynamic and gifted artist for his achievements; now, |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor Ruben Esquivel for his contributions to |

37 | 37 | | his community and to the art world and extend to him sincere best |
