5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Rebecca Anne Elliott McKenzie of Victoria on April 5, |

7 | 7 | | 2023, at the age of 81; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Arvle and Anita Elliott, Rebecca |
---|
9 | 9 | | McKenzie was born in Bowie on September 6, 1941, and she grew up |
---|
10 | 10 | | with the companionship of her brother, Stanley; she went on to |
---|
11 | 11 | | graduate from high school in Edna, and she earned a bachelor's |
---|
12 | 12 | | degree in elementary education from Texas Tech University in 1963; |
---|
13 | 13 | | and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. McKenzie subsequently began teaching |
---|
15 | 15 | | kindergarten at Juan Linn Elementary in Victoria, and following a |
---|
16 | 16 | | long and rewarding career as an educator, she eventually retired |
---|
17 | 17 | | from Rowland Elementary School; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Mrs. McKenzie gave |
---|
19 | 19 | | generously of her time and talents to a number of organizations, |
---|
20 | 20 | | including The Texas Zoo, the Junior League of Victoria, the |
---|
21 | 21 | | Children's Discovery Museum, and Twice Blessed Showroom; |
---|
22 | 22 | | furthermore, she was a valued member of First United Methodist |
---|
23 | 23 | | Church; in her leisure time, she was a gifted artist who specialized |
---|
24 | 24 | | in watercolors, and she also enjoyed reading good books and |
---|
25 | 25 | | spending time with her family and friends; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. McKenzie shared a fulfilling marriage with her |
---|
27 | 27 | | husband, Kenneth, and she was the devoted mother of two children, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Catherine and Scott; with the passing years, she had the privilege |
---|
29 | 29 | | of watching her family grow to include three grandchildren, Zen, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Charlie, and Cooper; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Admired for her warm and caring nature and radiant |
---|
32 | 32 | | smile, Rebecca McKenzie brightened the world for all who knew her, |
---|
33 | 33 | | and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, |
---|
34 | 34 | | therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Rebecca Anne |

37 | 37 | | Elliott McKenzie and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of |

38 | 38 | | her family: to her husband, Kenneth McKenzie; to her daughter, |

39 | 39 | | Catherine McKenzie; to her son, K. Scott McKenzie, and his wife, |
