| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Texas is holding its annual Day |

| 6 | 6 | | at the Dome Capitol Build on February 7, 2023, and this occasion |

| 7 | 7 | | provides a welcome opportunity to recognize Elise Fulton Smith for |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | her efforts as executive director of Jefferson County Habitat for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Humanity; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The world's largest not-for-profit homebuilder, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Habitat for Humanity International has made a positive difference |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | in the lives of more than 4 million people around the globe; Habitat |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | for Humanity of Jefferson County is one of its oldest affiliates in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the United States; founded in 1978 as Beaumont Habitat for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Humanity, it eventually changed its name to reflect its mission of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | serving the entire Mid Counties/Triangle area; to date, this |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | affiliate has built more than 122 homes accommodating over 500 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | residents of the area; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Habitat assists working families who qualify for an |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | interest-free mortgage based on their income; the program's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | homebuyers must commit more than 200 hours of "sweat equity" to the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | construction of their home; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The walls built at this year's Day of the Dome event |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | will be shipped to Jefferson County and incorporated in a house for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a lifelong Beaumont resident and her three sons; Elise Fulton Smith |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | is overseeing all the logistics of this effort, including |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | identifying a suitable site, securing funding for lumber and other |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | supplies, negotiating permitting and construction, and organizing |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | volunteers to raise the walls and complete the home this summer; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through her tireless endeavors in behalf of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Jefferson County Habitat for Humanity, Elise Fulton Smith is |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | helping to make the benefits of home ownership more widely |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | attainable, and her contributions have earned the admiration and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | appreciation of her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
