5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A number of future leaders have provided |

6 | 6 | | indispensable support as participants in the Texas Legislative |
---|
7 | 7 | | Internship Program during the 88th Legislative Session; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Legislative Internship Program was |
---|
9 | 9 | | established by State Senator Rodney Ellis in December 1990, and it |
---|
10 | 10 | | is administered by Texas Southern University; the program provides |
---|
11 | 11 | | students from Texas colleges and universities with a unique |
---|
12 | 12 | | opportunity to serve as interns in the Texas Legislature, the |
---|
13 | 13 | | United States Congress, and a variety of local, state, and national |
---|
14 | 14 | | government agencies and public policy organizations; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Students receive academic credit for participating |
---|
16 | 16 | | in the program, which combines academic study and research with |
---|
17 | 17 | | supervised practical training; as interns, they gain firsthand |
---|
18 | 18 | | knowledge of the governmental process and work experience in a |
---|
19 | 19 | | political environment, as well as insight into the issues facing |
---|
20 | 20 | | our communities and our state today; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, This year's participants in the Texas Legislative |
---|

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby commend the members of the Texas Legislative |

39 | 39 | | Internship Program Class of the 88th Legislature for their |
---|
40 | 40 | | excellent work and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, |
