| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Texas is holding its annual Day |

| 6 | 6 | | at the Dome Capitol Build on February 7, 2023, and this occasion |

| 7 | 7 | | provides a welcome opportunity to recognize Jefferson County for |

| 8 | 8 | | its support of the Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Beaumont; and |

| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The world's largest not-for-profit homebuilder, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Habitat for Humanity International has assisted more than 4 million |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | people in constructing, rehabilitating, or preserving over 800,000 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | homes all around the globe; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Home ownership has a direct impact on financial |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | stability, long-term educational achievement, and good health, yet |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with rising costs and interest rates, it is an increasingly |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | difficult goal to achieve; one in every seven Texans must spend over |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | half their monthly income on a house payment; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Habitat aids working families who qualify for an |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | interest-free mortgage based on their income; the program's |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | homebuyers must commit more than 200 hours of "sweat equity" to the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | construction of their home; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Founded as Beaumont Habitat for Humanity in 1978, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County ranks as one of the oldest |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Habitat affiliates in the United States; to date, this single |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | affiliate has built more than 122 homes accommodating over 500 |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | residents of the Mid Counties/Triangle area; the walls built at |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | this year's Day of the Dome event will be shipped to Jefferson |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | County and incorporated in a house for a lifelong Beaumont resident |

| 29 | 29 | | and her three sons; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through its support for Habitat for Humanity, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Jefferson County is helping to make the benefits of home ownership |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | more attainable, and it is truly a pleasure to acknowledge the |

| 33 | 33 | | county's contributions on this occasion; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
