55 WHEREAS, Young people represent the future of our state, and
66 providing for the diverse needs of students in Texas schools is
77 critically important to ensuring that they receive an optimal
88 education; and
99 WHEREAS, Families deserve the peace of mind of knowing that
1010 their children are fully cared for when they are at school, and for
1111 more than 120 years, school nurses have played a key role in
1212 ensuring the physical and mental health of students at the campuses
1313 they serve; and
1414 WHEREAS, School nurses are nursing professionals who are
1515 committed to the health, well-being, academic achievement, and
1616 lifelong success of students; working as members of school-based
1717 teams, they address the home and community factors that impact
1818 students' health, and they serve as liaisons to the school
1919 community, families, and health care providers in order to promote
2020 better health and wellness outcomes; and
2121 WHEREAS, By providing access to care during a critical time
2222 in a child's development, school nurses help support a learning
2323 environment where students are empowered to reach their full
2424 academic potential, and the observance of School Nurse Day on
2525 May 10, 2023, serves as a fitting opportunity to acknowledge their
2626 contributions to our state and nation; now, therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2828 Legislature hereby recognize May 10, 2023, as School Nurse Day and
2929 extend sincere appreciation to the Texas School Nurses Organization
3030 for its work to strengthen the practice of school nursing for the
3131 benefit of schoolchildren throughout the state.
