5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |

6 | 6 | | those saddened by the passing of the Reverend Dr. George V. Clark of |
---|
7 | 7 | | Austin on April 21, 2022, at the age of 92; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, George Clark was born to the Reverend Amos Clark and |
---|
9 | 9 | | Helen Rutledge Clark in Webberville on July 24, 1929; following a |
---|
10 | 10 | | tour of duty in the military, he earned a bachelor's degree from |
---|
11 | 11 | | Huston-Tillotson University and a master of divinity degree at the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Seminary of the Southwest; he completed his education at The |
---|
13 | 13 | | University of Texas at Austin and the Andover Newton Seminary at |
---|
14 | 14 | | Yale University, and he received an honorary doctorate from |
---|
15 | 15 | | Huston-Tillotson; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Clark was ordained as a minister at College |
---|
17 | 17 | | Heights Baptist Church in Austin, and he served as pastor for |
---|
18 | 18 | | St. Mary's Baptist Church in Pflugerville and Sweet Home Baptist |
---|
19 | 19 | | Church in Round Rock; in 1970, he assumed the pulpit of Mt. Zion |
---|
20 | 20 | | Baptist Church in Austin, where for half a century he ably guided |
---|
21 | 21 | | the congregation; he was also involved in a number of faith-based |
---|
22 | 22 | | organizations; in addition to his pastoral work, he was a teacher in |
---|
23 | 23 | | the Round Rock Independent School District, and he held several |
---|
24 | 24 | | positions with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, including |
---|
25 | 25 | | director of training and director of the Office of Civil Rights; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Clark enjoyed the |
---|
27 | 27 | | love and support of his wife, Bobbie Jean Higgins Clark, with whom |
---|
28 | 28 | | he shared a fulfilling union that spanned more than 40 years until |
---|
29 | 29 | | her passing in 2001; he took great pride in his two children, Vicki |
---|
30 | 30 | | and Vincent, and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
---|
31 | 31 | | include three grandchildren, Tony, Sydney, and Mary, and three |
---|
32 | 32 | | great-grandchildren, Carlton, Amari, and Antoni; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, George Clark lived a rich and purposeful life |
---|
34 | 34 | | centered around his faith and his family, and he will long be |
---|
35 | 35 | | remembered with deep affection by those who had the pleasure to know |
---|
36 | 36 | | him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Reverend |
---|
39 | 39 | | Dr. George V. Clark and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn |
---|
40 | 40 | | his passing; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
42 | 42 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
43 | 43 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the |
