44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
66 those saddened by the passing of the Reverend Dr. George V. Clark of
77 Austin on April 21, 2022, at the age of 92; and
88 WHEREAS, George Clark was born to the Reverend Amos Clark and
99 Helen Rutledge Clark in Webberville on July 24, 1929; following a
1010 tour of duty in the military, he earned a bachelor's degree from
1111 Huston-Tillotson University and a master of divinity degree at the
1212 Seminary of the Southwest; he completed his education at The
1313 University of Texas at Austin and the Andover Newton Seminary at
1414 Yale University, and he received an honorary doctorate from
1515 Huston-Tillotson; and
1616 WHEREAS, Reverend Clark was ordained as a minister at College
1717 Heights Baptist Church in Austin, and he served as pastor for
1818 St. Mary's Baptist Church in Pflugerville and Sweet Home Baptist
1919 Church in Round Rock; in 1970, he assumed the pulpit of Mt. Zion
2020 Baptist Church in Austin, where for half a century he ably guided
2121 the congregation; he was also involved in a number of faith-based
2222 organizations; in addition to his pastoral work, he was a teacher in
2323 the Round Rock Independent School District, and he held several
2424 positions with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, including
2525 director of training and director of the Office of Civil Rights; and
2626 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Reverend Clark enjoyed the
2727 love and support of his wife, Bobbie Jean Higgins Clark, with whom
2828 he shared a fulfilling union that spanned more than 40 years until
2929 her passing in 2001; he took great pride in his two children, Vicki
3030 and Vincent, and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to
3131 include three grandchildren, Tony, Sydney, and Mary, and three
3232 great-grandchildren, Carlton, Amari, and Antoni; and
3333 WHEREAS, George Clark lived a rich and purposeful life
3434 centered around his faith and his family, and he will long be
3535 remembered with deep affection by those who had the pleasure to know
3636 him; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Reverend
3939 Dr. George V. Clark and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn
4040 his passing; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the
4444 Reverend Dr. George Clark.
