44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
66 those saddened by the passing of Glen Dale Hunt on April 20, 2023,
77 at the age of 75; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Lubbock, Glen Hunt was born on July 12,
99 1947, to George Wilbur and Dorothy Nixon Hunt; as a youth, he
1010 participated in activities at Asbury United Methodist Church
1111 Lubbock, and he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and the God and
1212 Country Award during his years in the Boy Scouts; following his
1313 graduation from Monterey High School in 1965, he obtained a degree
1414 in government and completed further graduate work at Texas Tech
1515 University; and
1616 WHEREAS, After being hired by the Idalou Independent School
1717 District, Mr. Hunt worked for 13 years as a teacher, K-12
1818 counselor, and curriculum director; his desire to play an active
1919 role in the community led him to successfully run for a seat on the
2020 Idalou City Council and then to serve two terms as the city's mayor;
2121 from 1979 to 1985, he worked as an administrative assistant to
2222 Congressman Kent Hance, and then became executive assistant to
2323 Mr. Hance at the Railroad Commission of Texas; he went on to join
2424 the office of state comptroller John Sharp, to serve as the first
2525 director of operations for the Texas Lottery, and to work as a clerk
2626 with the Redistricting Committee of the Texas House of
2727 Representatives; and
2828 WHEREAS, Mr. Hunt continued his career in education as an
2929 adjunct government professor at Austin Community College, where his
3030 nearly three decades of service also included a tenure as chair of
3131 the Government Department; teaching the subject was his greatest
3232 joy in life, and he relished having the opportunity to impart to his
3333 students the importance of being an informed participant in the
3434 democratic process; and
3535 WHEREAS, Outside of his professional life, Mr. Hunt took
3636 pleasure in taking trips to locations around the globe; since 2002,
3737 he had been an active member of the upRising congregation in Austin,
3838 and he was involved in neighborhood activities in the Ashton Woods
3939 subdivision; and
4040 WHEREAS, Although Glen Hunt is deeply missed, he will forever
4141 be remembered with admiration and affection by his loved ones and by
4242 the countless other individuals whose lives he touched; now,
4343 therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4545 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glen Dale Hunt and
4646 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4747 sisters, Sue Hunt and Ann McAdams and her husband, Kenneth; to his
4848 nephews, Andrew Will McAdams and his wife, Sarah, and their
4949 children, Connor, Kylie, Jackson, Blake, and Avery, and Brant Ware
5050 McAdams and his wife, Alison, and their children, Payton Hunt and
5151 Adelyn Sue; and to his other relatives and numerous friends; and, be
5252 it further
5353 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5454 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5555 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Glen Hunt.
