5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
---|
6 | 6 | | those saddened by the passing of Glen Dale Hunt on April 20, 2023, |
---|
7 | 7 | | at the age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Lubbock, Glen Hunt was born on July 12, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1947, to George Wilbur and Dorothy Nixon Hunt; as a youth, he |
---|
10 | 10 | | participated in activities at Asbury United Methodist Church |
---|
11 | 11 | | Lubbock, and he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and the God and |
---|
12 | 12 | | Country Award during his years in the Boy Scouts; following his |
---|
13 | 13 | | graduation from Monterey High School in 1965, he obtained a degree |
---|
14 | 14 | | in government and completed further graduate work at Texas Tech |
---|
15 | 15 | | University; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After being hired by the Idalou Independent School |
---|
17 | 17 | | District, Mr. Hunt worked for 13 years as a teacher, K-12 |
---|
18 | 18 | | counselor, and curriculum director; his desire to play an active |
---|
19 | 19 | | role in the community led him to successfully run for a seat on the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Idalou City Council and then to serve two terms as the city's mayor; |
---|
21 | 21 | | from 1979 to 1985, he worked as an administrative assistant to |
---|
22 | 22 | | Congressman Kent Hance, and then became executive assistant to |
---|
23 | 23 | | Mr. Hance at the Railroad Commission of Texas; he went on to join |
---|
24 | 24 | | the office of state comptroller John Sharp, to serve as the first |
---|
25 | 25 | | director of operations for the Texas Lottery, and to work as a clerk |
---|
26 | 26 | | with the Redistricting Committee of the Texas House of |
---|
27 | 27 | | Representatives; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hunt continued his career in education as an |
---|
29 | 29 | | adjunct government professor at Austin Community College, where his |
---|
30 | 30 | | nearly three decades of service also included a tenure as chair of |
---|
31 | 31 | | the Government Department; teaching the subject was his greatest |
---|
32 | 32 | | joy in life, and he relished having the opportunity to impart to his |
---|
33 | 33 | | students the importance of being an informed participant in the |
---|
34 | 34 | | democratic process; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Outside of his professional life, Mr. Hunt took |
---|
36 | 36 | | pleasure in taking trips to locations around the globe; since 2002, |
---|
37 | 37 | | he had been an active member of the upRising congregation in Austin, |
---|
38 | 38 | | and he was involved in neighborhood activities in the Ashton Woods |
---|
39 | 39 | | subdivision; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Although Glen Hunt is deeply missed, he will forever |
---|
41 | 41 | | be remembered with admiration and affection by his loved ones and by |
---|
42 | 42 | | the countless other individuals whose lives he touched; now, |
---|
43 | 43 | | therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Glen Dale Hunt and |
---|
46 | 46 | | extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
---|
47 | 47 | | sisters, Sue Hunt and Ann McAdams and her husband, Kenneth; to his |
---|
48 | 48 | | nephews, Andrew Will McAdams and his wife, Sarah, and their |
---|
49 | 49 | | children, Connor, Kylie, Jackson, Blake, and Avery, and Brant Ware |
---|
50 | 50 | | McAdams and his wife, Alison, and their children, Payton Hunt and |
---|
51 | 51 | | Adelyn Sue; and to his other relatives and numerous friends; and, be |
