4	4	R E S O L U T I O N
5	5	WHEREAS, Keith Smith is retiring as superintendent of the
6	6	Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District on
7	7	June 30, 2023, drawing to a close an outstanding tenure with the
8	8	district that has spanned more than three decades; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Mr. Smith began his career as a high school teacher
10	10	and coach with the district in 1991; over the years, he has served
11	11	in a variety of administrative roles, including as assistant
12	12	principal and principal at Madisonville Junior High School and as
13	13	principal of Madisonville High School, and he has further benefited
14	14	the district as a golf coach and as federal funds coordinator; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Since being appointed superintendent in 2007,
16	16	Mr. Smith has provided exemplary leadership to the district's four
17	17	schools; under his direction, Madisonville CISD earned an A
18	18	accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency and a
19	19	financial accountability rating of superior; he has also been
20	20	integral to building a safe and welcoming learning environment and
21	21	crafting and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan focusing
22	22	on short-term and long-term measures; and
23	23	WHEREAS, A leader in his field, Mr. Smith has served as a
24	24	superintendent mentor and as a member of the Texas Association of
25	25	School Administrators, Texas Association of School Boards, Region 6
26	26	Education Service Center executive committee, and TEA
27	27	Commissioner's Cabinet, among other professional organizations; he
28	28	is the recipient of an Honorary Lone Star Degree from the Texas FFA
29	29	Association, and in 2021, he was selected as the Region 6 ESC
30	30	Superintendent of the Year; and
31	31	WHEREAS, A resident of Madison County for 32 years, Mr. Smith
32	32	holds degrees from Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State
33	33	University; active in his community, he is a congregant of First
34	34	Methodist Church Madisonville and a member of the Madisonville
35	35	Economic Council and Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651; in all his
36	36	endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife of 27 years,
37	37	Laney, and their two daughters; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Through his dedication, professionalism, and
39	39	commitment to excellence, Keith Smith has helped many young Texans
40	40	acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and his
41	41	contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to come;
42	42	now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
44	44	Legislature hereby congratulate Keith Smith on his retirement as
45	45	superintendent of the Madisonville Consolidated Independent School
46	46	District and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
47	47	success; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
50	50	House of Representatives.
