5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Brazoria County lost an iconic restaurateur with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Joe Vincent Saladino of Friendswood on April 25, 2023, at |
---|
7 | 7 | | the age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Mary and Sam Saladino, Joe Saladino was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born in Houston on March 2, 1948; he learned the value of hard work |
---|
10 | 10 | | by rising early to help his father and grandfather prepare barbeque |
---|
11 | 11 | | for the family restaurant; after graduating from Mount Carmel High |
---|
12 | 12 | | School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he |
---|
13 | 13 | | realized his dream of opening his own restaurant in 1976; Joe's |
---|
14 | 14 | | Barbeque in Manvel had just four tables and three employees, but it |
---|
15 | 15 | | caught on quickly, and six years later, Mr. Saladino launched |
---|
16 | 16 | | another location in Alvin; in 1999, he added Joe's Banquet Center to |
---|
17 | 17 | | host family celebrations and meetings; his catering operation grew |
---|
18 | 18 | | large enough to serve major corporate clients and groups numbering |
---|
19 | 19 | | in the tens of thousands; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Saladino adapted swiftly to the upheaval of the |
---|
21 | 21 | | COVID-19 pandemic; he continued to employ approximately 100 people, |
---|
22 | 22 | | including many who had worked for him for decades; he was also |
---|
23 | 23 | | renowned for stepping forward to assist in the wake of severe storms |
---|
24 | 24 | | and emergency situations, keeping the restaurant open to feed first |
---|
25 | 25 | | responders and others, and he never charged police and fire |
---|
26 | 26 | | department personnel in uniform for their meals; a mentor to |
---|
27 | 27 | | countless youngsters, he was always ready to support local schools |
---|
28 | 28 | | as well as his church and various community organizations and never |
---|
29 | 29 | | sought credit for his generosity; warm and friendly, he enjoyed |
---|
30 | 30 | | spending lunchtime laughing and conversing with customers at his |
---|
31 | 31 | | favorite table; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Saladino was deeply devoted to his family; he |
---|
33 | 33 | | shared a fulfilling relationship of 52 years with his wife, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Beverly, and he took great pride in his four children, seven |
---|
35 | 35 | | grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Joe Saladino lived a rich and purposeful life |
---|
37 | 37 | | centered around his family, his business, and his community, and he |
---|
38 | 38 | | will be remembered with great admiration and affection by all who |
---|
39 | 39 | | were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joe Vincent |

42 | 42 | | Saladino and extend sincere condolences to the members of his |

43 | 43 | | family: to his wife, Beverly Saladino; to his children, Joe |

44 | 44 | | Saladino Jr. and his wife, Kacey, Sarah Barham and her husband, |
