| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas section of the United States |

| 6 | 6 | | Tennis Association are visiting Austin on May 9, 2023, to celebrate |

| 7 | 7 | | USTA Texas Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1895, USTA Texas is a nonprofit volunteer |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | organization composed of more than 50,000 individual members and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | over 500 organizational members, and it features programs for |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | beginning, recreational, and competitive juniors, as well as for |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adults and seniors; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, As part of the USTA National Junior Tennis and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Learning network, the state section helps promote the health, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | social, and educational benefits of tennis through a variety of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | youth programs; among those are Play Days, which is designed to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | introduce youngsters to competitive tennis in a low-pressure |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | setting, and Hot Shots, which helps instill such values as teamwork |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and sportsmanship by offering organized match play in a team |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | setting; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through USTA Texas and the state's physical |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | education curriculum, teachers and coaches receive lesson plans, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | training, and equipment to help them include tennis in their |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | school's athletic program, thereby introducing the sport to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | hundreds of thousands of young Texans; committed to making tennis |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | available to all children who want to play, including those with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | intellectual or physical disabilities, USTA Texas supports and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | promotes adaptive and wheelchair tennis programs through |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | education, training, and grant funding; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, USTA declared the month of May as National Tennis |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Month to promote local tennis programs and activities, to showcase |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the sport and its benefits, and to help players and nonplayers alike |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | find opportunities to participate, and by increasing the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | accessibility of tennis to individuals of all ages and backgrounds, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | USTA Texas is helping attract and engage a new and diverse community |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | of tennis players and fans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby recognize May 9, 2023, as USTA Texas Day at the |

| 39 | 39 | | State Capitol and extend to all those affiliated with the |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
