5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Telena Wright is retiring as superintendent of |
---|
6 | 6 | | the Argyle Independent School District on June 30, 2023, drawing to |
---|
7 | 7 | | a close an outstanding tenure that has spanned more than 15 years; |
---|
8 | 8 | | and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Ballinger, Dr. Wright began her career |
---|
10 | 10 | | in public education as a math teacher in San Angelo ISD, and she |
---|
11 | 11 | | went on to become an elementary and high school counselor; she |
---|
12 | 12 | | joined Argyle ISD as principal of Argyle High School in 2000, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | three years later, she accepted a position as the district's |
---|
14 | 14 | | assistant superintendent; she was named superintendent in 2009; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright has overseen three successful bond |
---|
16 | 16 | | programs that have included the addition of new campuses as well as |
---|
17 | 17 | | renovations and other improvements to existing campuses; she also |
---|
18 | 18 | | played an instrumental role in establishing the Argyle ISD Police |
---|
19 | 19 | | Department and special education department; since her appointment |
---|
20 | 20 | | as supervisor, district enrollment has increased from 1,700 to some |
---|
21 | 21 | | 5,000 students, and she has guided a team to develop a 10-year |
---|
22 | 22 | | growth plan for the district; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Under Dr. Wright's able leadership, Argyle ISD has |
---|
24 | 24 | | received a number of honors, including an A accountability rating |
---|
25 | 25 | | from the Texas Education Agency and a district score of 97, the |
---|
26 | 26 | | highest in the district's history; in addition, Argyle High has |
---|
27 | 27 | | achieved statewide success in University Interscholastic League |
---|
28 | 28 | | competitions, earning 12 Lone Star Cup awards; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright holds a doctorate in education from the |
---|
30 | 30 | | University of North Texas, a master's degree in education from |
---|
31 | 31 | | Hardin-Simmons University, and a bachelor's degree from The |
---|
32 | 32 | | University of Texas at Austin; in addition to her work with Argyle |
---|
33 | 33 | | ISD, she has served as an adjunct instructor at UNT; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Through her dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
35 | 35 | | commitment to excellence, Dr. Telena Wright has helped many young |
---|
36 | 36 | | Texans acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and |
---|
37 | 37 | | her contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to |
---|
38 | 38 | | come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Telena Wright on her |
---|
41 | 41 | | retirement as superintendent of the Argyle Independent School |
---|
42 | 42 | | District and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
