| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The members of New Hope Baptist Church in Dallas are |

| 6 | 6 | | celebrating the 150th anniversary of the congregation's founding on |

| 7 | 7 | | July 23, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The oldest African American church in Dallas, New |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Hope Baptist traces its roots back to 1873, when a prayer group |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | began meeting in the home of Sister Mattie Rainey; the group later |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | contacted the American Baptist Home Mission Society, and traveling |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | missionary Reverend John Hay was sent to formally organize the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | church; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, this notable house of worship |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | has played a vital role in the community, providing its members with |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | myriad opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | outreach; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The congregation has benefited from the able |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | leadership of many dedicated pastors over the years, and today that |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | tradition of service is continued by Dr. Damien N. Williams; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, New Hope Baptist Church has long served as a source |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of New Hope |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes |

| 28 | 28 | | for the future; and, be it further |
