55 WHEREAS, The observance of Father's Day on June 18, 2023,
66 provides a welcome opportunity for all Texans to express their
77 gratitude to the fathers and father figures who have enriched their
88 lives and shaped their characters; and
99 WHEREAS, Father's Day was officially recognized in 1966, when
1010 President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential
1111 proclamation honoring fathers and designating the third Sunday in
1212 June as Father's Day; it became a permanent national holiday in
1313 1972, when President Richard Nixon signed it into law; and
1414 WHEREAS, Fathers serve as role models, protectors,
1515 providers, and friends; above all, they strive to instill in their
1616 children enduring values and a sure sense of right and wrong; and
1717 WHEREAS, Being a good father means providing the structure,
1818 guidance, and love that children need to flourish, and on Father's
1919 Day, we honor those who have stepped forward and taken on this
2020 challenging yet rewarding responsibility; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2222 Legislature hereby commemorate Father's Day 2023 and pay tribute to
2323 the caring men who have dedicated their lives to building strong
2424 families and to inspiring their children to reach their full
2525 potential.
