44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Amarillo High School tennis team achieved great
66 distinction by winning the 5A championship at the 2022 University
77 Interscholastic League Team Tennis State Tournament; and
88 WHEREAS, Highly ranked throughout the regular season,
99 Amarillo surrendered just 19 points en route to winning the
1010 District 3-5A title; the Sandies carried their momentum into the
1111 postseason, dispatching Lubbock Cooper, El Paso Jefferson, Abilene
1212 Wylie, Argyle, and Lubbock High Schools to secure the Region 1-5A
1313 crown and advance to the state tournament; in the semifinals, the
1414 squad cruised to an 11-0 victory over Austin Liberal Arts and
1515 Science Academy to clinch a berth in the finals; and
1616 WHEREAS, On October 27, Amarillo took the court against
1717 Frisco Centennial High School with the state crown on the line; the
1818 Sandies recorded victories in five singles matches and five doubles
1919 matches to triumph by a final score of 10-7; with the win, the
2020 Amarillo players collected the first team tennis state championship
2121 in school history and ended a storybook season with a record of 29
2222 wins and just one loss; and
2323 WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, Amarillo received
2424 valuable contributions throughout the year from each member of the
2525 roster: Eleanor Archer, Morgan Rose, Karli Lakey, Allex Gonzales,
2626 Seren Wilson, Caroline Artho, Halle Rose, Maria Steans, Lauren
2727 Wilkie, Grace Logan, Catherine Nenstiel, Wade Bryant, Kelton Brown,
2828 Taylor Vigil, Carson Kersh, Pranav Nambiar, Alex Earthman, Grayson
2929 Taylor, Barrett Stroud, Javier Teran Jenaro, Nathaniel Wright,
3030 Caleb Kersh, Matthew Whitecotton, and William Ritter; these
3131 dedicated student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Koby Otto
3232 and assistant coach Timothy Whitecotton, and they received
3333 additional support from manager Ashley Seymour; and
3434 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
3535 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
3636 commitment to excellence, and the Amarillo High School Sandies may
3737 reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3939 Legislature hereby congratulate the Amarillo High School tennis
4040 team on winning the 2022 UIL 5A team tennis state championship and
4141 extend to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
4242 the future; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4545 House of Representatives.
