55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
66 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
77 of admired disability awareness advocate Randell Keith Resneder of
88 Lubbock, who passed away on February 11, 2022, at the age of 48; and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Norma Arnold Resneder and Robert
1010 Resneder, Randell Resneder was born in Lubbock on December 31,
1111 1973; he considered his cerebral palsy a gift he was given at birth,
1212 enabling him to demonstrate that a disability does not define an
1313 individual or determine what they can accomplish; and
1414 WHEREAS, While attending William S. Hart High School in Santa
1515 Clarita, California, Mr. Resneder became a trailblazer in
1616 mainstreaming; he addressed the confusion and bias of fellow
1717 students who lacked exposure to people with disabilities, and he
1818 organized an awareness week featuring motivational speakers with
1919 disabilities, as well as wheelchair races and other activities; it
2020 became an annual event, and he launched a similar program as a
2121 student at College of the Canyons; his accomplishments earned him
2222 recognition from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the
2323 Los Angeles Times, and numerous community groups and publications;
2424 and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Resneder went on to earn a bachelor's degree in
2626 family studies and human development from the University of North
2727 Texas and both a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies and a
2828 master of education degree in instructional technology from Texas
2929 Tech University; the founder of Disability Awareness Programs of
3030 Texas, he was its executive director and served as a consultant and
3131 speaker on special needs issues; he received gubernatorial
3232 appointments to the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities
3333 and the Texas State Independent Living Council; sustained by a
3434 strong faith, he was a member of First Christian Church and a
3535 supporter of the Special Friends Ministry at Bacon Heights Baptist
3636 Church, where he occasionally preached to members of the special
3737 needs community and their loved ones; and
3838 WHEREAS, Randell Resneder made a positive difference in
3939 countless lives through his tireless efforts in behalf of people
4040 with disabilities, and his courage, determination, and compassion
4141 will remain a lasting source of inspiration to all who were
4242 fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4444 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Randell Keith
4545 Resneder and that sincere sympathy be extended to the members of his
4646 family: to his parents, Norma and Robert Resneder; to his twin
4747 brother, Rob Resneder, and his wife, Heather; to his nieces and
4848 nephews, Charlotte, RJ, and Garrett Resneder; to his grandmother,
4949 Imogene Davis; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be
5050 it further
5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5252 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5353 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Randell
5454 Resneder.
