44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Henry Wesley Woodard of Meadow
66 on May 1, 2023, at the age of 18, has brought an unimaginable loss to
77 the family and friends of this beloved young man; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Brownfield on July 10, 2004, to Jody and
99 Kathryn Woodard, Wes Woodard grew up with the companionship of a
1010 younger brother, Kyle, with whom he shared a close bond; he moved
1111 with his family to the Meadow area as a young child, and he was set
1212 to graduate with the Class of 2023 at Meadow High School; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Woodard distinguished himself through his
1414 involvement in a multitude of sports, activities, and hobbies; he
1515 excelled at basketball, track, cross country, and football, and he
1616 also found time to participate in FFA, stock shows, robotics, and
1717 the National Honor Society as well as in UIL persuasive speaking and
1818 one-act play competitions; after graduating, he looked forward to
1919 attending Texas Tech University and becoming a high school
2020 basketball coach; and
2121 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his faith, Mr. Woodard was
2222 active in the congregations of both the Brownfield and South Plains
2323 Churches of Christ; while in high school, he volunteered his time as
2424 a counselor at the church-sponsored Camp Evergreen, where he
2525 discovered a passion for mentoring children; he was loved by many in
2626 his church family, and he endeared himself to numerous friends at
2727 school and in his community; and
2828 WHEREAS, Beloved for his sense of humor, his generosity, and
2929 his optimism, Wes Woodard leaves behind countless people whose
3030 lives are far richer for having known him, and he will always hold a
3131 treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3333 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Henry Wesley
3434 Woodard and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family:
3535 to his parents, Jody and Kathryn Woodard; to his brother, Kyle
3636 Woodard; to his grandparents, Henry McCulloch Jr. and Judy Woodard;
3737 and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3939 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4040 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wes
4141 Woodard.
