5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Henry Wesley Woodard of Meadow |
---|
6 | 6 | | on May 1, 2023, at the age of 18, has brought an unimaginable loss to |
---|
7 | 7 | | the family and friends of this beloved young man; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Brownfield on July 10, 2004, to Jody and |
---|
9 | 9 | | Kathryn Woodard, Wes Woodard grew up with the companionship of a |
---|
10 | 10 | | younger brother, Kyle, with whom he shared a close bond; he moved |
---|
11 | 11 | | with his family to the Meadow area as a young child, and he was set |
---|
12 | 12 | | to graduate with the Class of 2023 at Meadow High School; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Woodard distinguished himself through his |
---|
14 | 14 | | involvement in a multitude of sports, activities, and hobbies; he |
---|
15 | 15 | | excelled at basketball, track, cross country, and football, and he |
---|
16 | 16 | | also found time to participate in FFA, stock shows, robotics, and |
---|
17 | 17 | | the National Honor Society as well as in UIL persuasive speaking and |
---|
18 | 18 | | one-act play competitions; after graduating, he looked forward to |
---|
19 | 19 | | attending Texas Tech University and becoming a high school |
---|
20 | 20 | | basketball coach; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his faith, Mr. Woodard was |
---|
22 | 22 | | active in the congregations of both the Brownfield and South Plains |
---|
23 | 23 | | Churches of Christ; while in high school, he volunteered his time as |
---|
24 | 24 | | a counselor at the church-sponsored Camp Evergreen, where he |
---|
25 | 25 | | discovered a passion for mentoring children; he was loved by many in |
---|
26 | 26 | | his church family, and he endeared himself to numerous friends at |
---|
27 | 27 | | school and in his community; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Beloved for his sense of humor, his generosity, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | his optimism, Wes Woodard leaves behind countless people whose |
---|
30 | 30 | | lives are far richer for having known him, and he will always hold a |
---|
31 | 31 | | treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Henry Wesley |
---|
34 | 34 | | Woodard and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: |
---|
35 | 35 | | to his parents, Jody and Kathryn Woodard; to his brother, Kyle |
---|
36 | 36 | | Woodard; to his grandparents, Henry McCulloch Jr. and Judy Woodard; |

37 | 37 | | and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
