| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Larrian Menifee of Ball High School in Galveston has |

| 6 | 6 | | been nominated for the 2024 Grammy Music Educator Award; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, This annual honor recognizes current full-time |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | educators who make significant and lasting contributions to the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | maintaining music education in schools; winners receive a $10,000 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | honorarium and a matching grant for their school music program; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Mr. Menifee is one of 200 quarterfinalists from across the nation |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | nominated for the 2024 award; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A native of Galveston and an alumnus of Ball High, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Mr. Menifee is currently in his second year as director of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | school's choir program; he has created a five-year strategic plan |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | that includes a new mission statement, measurable goals, community |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | initiatives, program culture, and artistic excellence expectations |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | for the students; he also added specific voice classes for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | beginner-grade students as well as an audition-based advanced class |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | called "Golden Voices"; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Under his leadership, enrollment for the choral |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | program has grown from 11 students to 62, and there has been an |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | increase in local performance opportunities and sponsorships |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | funding student travel opportunities as well; the choir performed |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | in Mexico last January and is scheduled to sing in New York City |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | next year; in addition to directing the choir, Mr. Menifee coaches |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the school's volleyball team; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Larrian Menifee exemplifies the passion, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | best teachers, and he is indeed a deserving nominee for this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Larrian Menifee on his nomination |
