| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The ITKAN Robotics team won two top awards at the |

| 6 | 6 | | 2023 FIRST Championship Robotics Competition held in Houston on |

| 7 | 7 | | April 19 through 22, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, FIRST is a nonprofit organization that promotes |

| 9 | 9 | | science, technology, engineering, and math education through a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | number of team-based robotics programs; each year, the organization |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | holds a series of competitions culminating in the FIRST |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Championship, which draws more than 600 teams from countries around |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the world; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The ITKAN First Robotics Competition (FRC) Team |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | No. 9128 is composed of students from the Muslim American Society |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of Dallas-Fort Worth, the Islamic School of Irving, the East Plano |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Islamic Center, and the Valley Ranch Islamic Center; after earning |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | awards at district and state events, the team advanced to the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | international competition, where they received the Rookie All Star |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Award, which recognizes a young but strong partnership effort, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the Championship Division Highest Rookie Seed Award, which |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | celebrates the highest-seeded rookie team at the end of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | qualifying rounds; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The first all-Muslim team, ITKAN Robotics FRC |

| 25 | 25 | | No. 9128 further distinguished itself during the event, which took |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | place during the last two days of Ramadan, by inviting everyone in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | attendance to join in Eid al-Fitr prayers, share breakfast, and |

| 28 | 28 | | receive Eid goodie bags; throughout the competition season, the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | group has benefited from the able guidance of Dr. Mohamed Ebeida, |

| 30 | 30 | | founder of ITKAN Institute of Technology, which seeks to provide |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | STEM-focused education to underrepresented and underserved youth; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, The members of ITKAN Robotics have demonstrated |

| 34 | 34 | | tremendous skill, initiative, and dedication, and they may take |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | great pride in their exceptional performance at the FIRST |

| 36 | 36 | | championship; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate ITKAN Robotics FRC No. 9128 on |
