| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce |

| 6 | 6 | | are visiting the Texas Capitol on February 8, 2023, providing a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | welcome opportunity to pay tribute to this outstanding organization |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and the city it serves; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The seat of Kendall County, Boerne is located on |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Cibolo Creek, 30 miles northwest of San Antonio; in 1849, a group of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | German colonists from Bettina camped on the north side of the creek; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | they called their new community Tusculum after Cicero's home in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | ancient Rome, but in 1852, Gustav Theissen and John James laid out |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the townsite and changed the name to Boerne in honor of Ludwig |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Boerne, a German author; the town became well known as a health |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | resort in the late 1800s, and cotton, wool, grain, and lumber were |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | also important to its early economy; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Boerne was incorporated in 1909, the same year that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | residents established the Boerne Independent School District; the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | construction of Interstate 10 and the city's proximity to San |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Antonio spurred growth beginning in the 1960s, and today, Boerne |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | boasts a population of more than 19,000; visitors and residents |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | alike enjoy a range of recreational opportunities, including the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Cibolo Nature Center, Boerne City Lake Park, and Cascade Caverns; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Under the exceptional leadership of president and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | CEO Kimberley Blohm, the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce serves |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | as the voice of the local business community; currently made up of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | approximately 900 members who represent more than 17,500 area |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | employees, the chamber promotes responsible and progressive |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | economic development through advocacy and education; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce has played an |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | important role in enhancing the city's vitality and quality of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | life, and all those associated with the organization are deserving |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | of recognition for their dedicated efforts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 8, 2023, as Greater Boerne |

| 38 | 38 | | Chamber of Commerce Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm |
