| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The United States and Nepal have enjoyed a strong |

| 6 | 6 | | and productive friendship for 75 years; and |

| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, On April 25, 1947, the U.S. became the second |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | country to establish diplomatic relations with Nepal; Nepal opened |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | its embassy in Washington, D.C., in 1958, and the American Embassy |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in Kathmandu began operations the following year; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Many Americans and Nepalis have formed |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | people-to-people connections through educational and cultural |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | exchanges; in 2018, Nepal ranked among the top 12 sources of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | overseas students in the U.S., and the number of Americans studying |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | in Nepal has increased as well; the beauty and cultural wealth of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Nepal have drawn people from all over the world to the country, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Americans are a major contributor to its vibrant tourist industry; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the U.S. Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation has invested |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | nearly $4 million over the past two decades in 25 projects in Nepal; |

|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For generations, the United States and Nepal have |

| 22 | 22 | | worked together in behalf of shared goals and democratic values, |

| 23 | 23 | | and the bonds of friendship continue to strengthen with the passing |
