| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Registered nurses constitute the largest health |

| 6 | 6 | | care profession in the State of Texas; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, As licensed medical providers, registered nurses |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | are trained to work in a wide range of settings to meet the diverse |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and emerging health care needs of their patients; over the course of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the COVID-19 pandemic, they served on the front lines at hospitals |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and other facilities to care for the most severely ill patients, at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | times putting their own health and safety at risk to carry out their |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | vital work; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Nurses Association, the oldest and largest |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | nursing association in the state, represents the interests of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | professional nurses; the organization is charting a new course for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the future of health care in our state by advocating for improved |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | access to care and better utilization of nursing resources; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Professional nurses play an indispensable role as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | caregivers, patient advocates, and leaders in our state's health |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | care system, and the observance of Nurses Month provides a welcome |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | opportunity to honor their immeasurable contributions; now, |

| 23 | 23 | | therefore, be it |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby recognize May 2023 as Nurses Month and commend |
