55 WHEREAS, Registered nurses constitute the largest health
66 care profession in the State of Texas; and
77 WHEREAS, As licensed medical providers, registered nurses
88 are trained to work in a wide range of settings to meet the diverse
99 and emerging health care needs of their patients; over the course of
1010 the COVID-19 pandemic, they served on the front lines at hospitals
1111 and other facilities to care for the most severely ill patients, at
1212 times putting their own health and safety at risk to carry out their
1313 vital work; and
1414 WHEREAS, The Texas Nurses Association, the oldest and largest
1515 nursing association in the state, represents the interests of
1616 professional nurses; the organization is charting a new course for
1717 the future of health care in our state by advocating for improved
1818 access to care and better utilization of nursing resources; and
1919 WHEREAS, Professional nurses play an indispensable role as
2020 caregivers, patient advocates, and leaders in our state's health
2121 care system, and the observance of Nurses Month provides a welcome
2222 opportunity to honor their immeasurable contributions; now,
2323 therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2525 Legislature hereby recognize May 2023 as Nurses Month and commend
2626 all nurses for their invaluable service to the Lone Star State.
