| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Citizens of North Richland Hills are celebrating the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 70th anniversary of their city's founding in 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Located in present-day Tarrant County, the North |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Richland Hills area was first settled in the 1840s, and it remained |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | a rural farming and ranching community for more than a century; in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1952, a resident named Clarence Jones began to subdivide his |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 268-acre dairy farm into a suburban neighborhood; the new |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | homeowners in the area formed the North Richland Hills Civic League |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and initially intended to join the neighboring city of Richland |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Hills; instead, the residents elected to establish their own |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | community on April 25, 1953, by which time there were over 180 homes |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | on what was once the Jones Farm; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1955, North Richland Hills began annexing |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | adjacent neighborhoods, and its population grew rapidly during the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | latter half of the 20th century; today, it is home to more than |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 70,000 people, making it the fourth-largest city in Tarrant County; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | a vibrant suburban community, the city benefits from its close |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | proximity to Fort Worth, as well as from being within commuting |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | distance of Dallas; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Residents of North Richland Hills enjoy a strong and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | reliable local infrastructure and an array of city services, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | including an expansive 800-acre park system; other popular |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | attractions in the city include NRH2O Family Water Park, the first |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | municipally owned water park in the State of Texas, as well as Iron |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Horse Golf Course, the Richland Tennis Center, and the North |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Richland Hills Library; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of the past seven decades, North |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Richland Hills has built a well-deserved reputation as a desirable |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | place to live and work, and its residents may take pride in the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | place they call home; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 70th anniversary of the City of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | North Richland Hills and extend to its citizens sincere best wishes |
