H.R. No. 1780 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Robert Cole Grable of Fort Worth on April 20, 2023, at the age of 76; and WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Esther Grable, Bob Grable was born on April 21, 1946, in San Antonio and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and in Dallas; he attended Hillcrest High School, where he played varsity basketball; following his graduation in 1964, he attended the University of California, Los Angeles, before transferring to Southern Methodist University, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity; he later graduated from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law as the grand chancellor; and WHEREAS, Mr. Grable served as a naval legal officer in the Judge Advocate General's Corps and was honorably discharged at the rank of lieutenant; he went on to enjoy a successful career as an attorney, working for Graves, Dougherty, Hearon, Moody & Garwood in Austin and subsequently becoming a partner at Kelly Hart & Hallman in Fort Worth; an expert in oil, gas, and mineral law, he chaired that section of the State Bar of Texas, and he received numerous awards in recognition of his professional accomplishments; he was also a member of the Atmos Energy board of directors and chair of The University of Texas Law School Foundation board; and WHEREAS, In 1968, Mr. Grable married Marty Hallman, and the couple shared 54 years together; he took great pride in their children, Jeffrey and Laura, and their granddaughters, Annabelle and Mary Frances; in his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf; and WHEREAS, While the death of Bob Grable brings great sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Cole Grable and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Martha Hallman Grable; to his son, Jeffrey Grable, and his wife, Maureen; to his daughter, Laura Thomas, and her husband, Ben; to his granddaughters, Annabelle and Mary Frances Grable; to his brother, Charles Grable; to his sister, Sue Stamper; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob Grable.
