| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sara Long was installed as president of the Woman's |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Club of El Paso on May 3, 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1894, the Woman's Club of El Paso is |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | dedicated to the betterment of the community; it offers monthly |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | opportunities for education and cultural enrichment, and members |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | also work to preserve their historic clubhouse; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Sara Long has been active in the club since 2008, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | for the past eight years, she has benefited the group as program |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | chair; from 2022 to 2023, she served with distinction as |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | president-elect; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A retired educator, Mrs. Long was born and raised in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Denver City; she studied piano, voice, and acting as a girl and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | attended Sul Ross State University, where she earned a bachelor's |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | degree in music with a major in piano and a minor in voice; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Long enjoyed a 31-year career as a vocal music |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | director for students of all levels in the Clint and Socorro |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Independent School Districts; over the years, she served as a vocal |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and choral music adjudicator for UIL competitions, and she was an |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | accompanist for contest choirs as well; she was also a guest |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | conductor for the Ysleta ISD Honor Choirs; for 14 Years, she was the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | director of music ministries at Vista Ysleta United Methodist |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Church; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Long continues to teach piano and voice |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | privately; in all her endeavors, she is supported by the love and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | encouragement of her husband of 50 years, Allen Long, a fellow |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | retired educator; they have been blessed with three children, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Allyson, Andrea, and AJ, as well as seven grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Sara Long has demonstrated a strong commitment to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the mission of the Woman's Club of El Paso, and her new role will |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | allow her to make even greater contributions to the community; now, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sara Long on her installation as |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | president of the Woman's Club of El Paso and extend to her sincere |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | best wishes for a successful tenure in office; and, be it further |

| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
