44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Sara Long was installed as president of the Woman's
66 Club of El Paso on May 3, 2023; and
77 WHEREAS, Founded in 1894, the Woman's Club of El Paso is
88 dedicated to the betterment of the community; it offers monthly
99 opportunities for education and cultural enrichment, and members
1010 also work to preserve their historic clubhouse; and
1111 WHEREAS, Sara Long has been active in the club since 2008, and
1212 for the past eight years, she has benefited the group as program
1313 chair; from 2022 to 2023, she served with distinction as
1414 president-elect; and
1515 WHEREAS, A retired educator, Mrs. Long was born and raised in
1616 Denver City; she studied piano, voice, and acting as a girl and
1717 attended Sul Ross State University, where she earned a bachelor's
1818 degree in music with a major in piano and a minor in voice; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mrs. Long enjoyed a 31-year career as a vocal music
2020 director for students of all levels in the Clint and Socorro
2121 Independent School Districts; over the years, she served as a vocal
2222 and choral music adjudicator for UIL competitions, and she was an
2323 accompanist for contest choirs as well; she was also a guest
2424 conductor for the Ysleta ISD Honor Choirs; for 14 Years, she was the
2525 director of music ministries at Vista Ysleta United Methodist
2626 Church; and
2727 WHEREAS, Today, Mrs. Long continues to teach piano and voice
2828 privately; in all her endeavors, she is supported by the love and
2929 encouragement of her husband of 50 years, Allen Long, a fellow
3030 retired educator; they have been blessed with three children,
3131 Allyson, Andrea, and AJ, as well as seven grandchildren; and
3232 WHEREAS, Sara Long has demonstrated a strong commitment to
3333 the mission of the Woman's Club of El Paso, and her new role will
3434 allow her to make even greater contributions to the community; now,
3535 therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3737 Legislature hereby congratulate Sara Long on her installation as
3838 president of the Woman's Club of El Paso and extend to her sincere
3939 best wishes for a successful tenure in office; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for Mrs. Long as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4242 House of Representatives.
