5	5	WHEREAS, Mark and Becky Lanier are celebrating the opening of
6	6	the Lanier Learning Center on June 6, 2023, and this occasion
7	7	provides an ideal opportunity to recognize the couple for their
8	8	contributions; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Highly respected attorneys, Mark and Becky Lanier
10	10	have built an extensive compound devoted to theological scholarship
11	11	next to their home in northwestern Harris County; the Lanier
12	12	Theological Library, established in 2010, is housed in a
13	13	17,000-square-foot building designed by Mr. Lanier with a
14	14	combination of architectural features that recall the libraries in
15	15	and around the University of Oxford; it has a capacity of more than
16	16	100,000 volumes, and it focuses on archaeology, Biblical studies,
17	17	church history, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Egyptology, linguistics, and
18	18	theology; in addition, it holds a comprehensive periodical
19	19	collection, historical documents, and museum-quality artifacts;
20	20	and
21	21	WHEREAS, The ceiling of the library's main hall was painted
22	22	by Texas artist Richard McCluskey; he also painted the biblical
23	23	scenes on the ceiling of the adjacent Stone Chapel, a replica of an
24	24	ancient Byzantine house of worship; the newest building on the
25	25	property is the 40,000-square-foot Lanier Learning Center, which
26	26	will serve as a seminary-style center for ministry and leadership
27	27	development, complete with living quarters for participants; its
28	28	great hall has a capacity for approximately 500 people, and the
29	29	building features breakout rooms and classrooms as well;
30	30	immediately upon its opening, the center will host the Thomas H.
31	31	Olbricht Christian Scholars Conference; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Generous philanthropists, Mr. and Mrs. Lanier
33	33	established the Lanier Center for Archaeology at Lipscomb
34	34	University, his undergraduate alma mater; he serves as a member of
35	35	the institution's board of trustees; moreover, the couple has
36	36	demonstrated a commitment to supporting the advancement of the next
37	37	generations of lawyers, and the Mark & Becky Lanier Professional
38	38	Development Center at Texas Tech University School of Law is named
39	39	in their honor; the Laniers are both alumni of TTU, where Mr. Lanier
40	40	obtained his law degree; Mrs. Lanier graduated from the University
41	41	of Houston Law School; they are valued members of Champion Forest
42	42	Baptist Church, where they have taught biblical literacy classes
43	43	for two decades; and
44	44	WHEREAS, Mark and Becky Lanier have set an inspiring example
45	45	through their support for theological scholarship and legal
46	46	education, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in celebrating their
47	47	latest project; now, therefore, be it
48	48	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
49	49	Legislature hereby honor Mark and Becky Lanier on the occasion of
50	50	the opening of the Lanier Learning Center and extend to them sincere
51	51	best wishes for the future; and, be it further
52	52	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53	prepared for the Laniers as an expression of high regard by the
54	54	Texas House of Representatives.
