5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Shah Ardalan has greatly distinguished himself |

6 | 6 | | as the founding president of Lone Star College-University Park in |

7 | 7 | | Houston; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ardalan began his career with the Lone Star |
---|
9 | 9 | | College System in 2008, when he was appointed vice chancellor and |
---|
10 | 10 | | CIO; in 2011, he was tasked with overseeing the establishment of the |
---|
11 | 11 | | system's sixth campus and named its chief executive officer; he |
---|
12 | 12 | | took on the role of president of Lone Star College-University Park |
---|
13 | 13 | | in 2012, and under his able leadership, the school has grown to |
---|
14 | 14 | | serve an enrollment of 13,000 students, and it employs more than 100 |
---|
15 | 15 | | full-time faculty members and over 400 adjunct professors; in |
---|
16 | 16 | | addition to leading the college, Dr. Ardalan has served as a guest |
---|
17 | 17 | | teacher and lecturer for doctoral classes, supported a wide range |
---|
18 | 18 | | of faculty initiatives, and played an instrumental role in |
---|
19 | 19 | | establishing new workforce and continuing education programs, |
---|
20 | 20 | | degrees, and certificates; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ardalan's previous experience includes his |
---|
22 | 22 | | leadership roles at College of Southern Nevada, San Juan College, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and Prairie View A&M University; moreover, he has served on |
---|
24 | 24 | | numerous boards and committees, such as those for College Board, |
---|
25 | 25 | | the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, Greater Houston |
---|
26 | 26 | | Partnership, the Northwest Harris County chapter of the American |
---|
27 | 27 | | Heart Association, and the Texas Association of Community Colleges; |
---|

29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Among his many honors, Dr. Ardalan has been named |
---|
30 | 30 | | Community College President of the Year by SAFE Diversity |
---|
31 | 31 | | Communities, and he has received the Shirley B. Gordon Award from |

32 | 32 | | Phi Theta Kappa as well as the Carl M. Nelson Award from the Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Association of Community Colleges; he holds a bachelor's degree in |
---|
34 | 34 | | physics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a |
---|
35 | 35 | | master's degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina A&T |
---|
36 | 36 | | State University, and a doctorate of education in community college |
---|
37 | 37 | | leadership from John Roueche Graduate Center at National American |

38 | 38 | | University in Austin; and |

39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Through his visionary leadership and commitment to |

40 | 40 | | excellence, Dr. Shah Ardalan has greatly advanced the important |

41 | 41 | | mission of Lone Star College, and he may indeed reflect with pride |

42 | 42 | | on his many contributions to higher education; now, therefore, be |

44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby commend Dr. Shah Ardalan for his exemplary |
