44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Shah Ardalan has greatly distinguished himself
66 as the founding president of Lone Star College-University Park in
77 Houston; and
88 WHEREAS, Dr. Ardalan began his career with the Lone Star
99 College System in 2008, when he was appointed vice chancellor and
1010 CIO; in 2011, he was tasked with overseeing the establishment of the
1111 system's sixth campus and named its chief executive officer; he
1212 took on the role of president of Lone Star College-University Park
1313 in 2012, and under his able leadership, the school has grown to
1414 serve an enrollment of 13,000 students, and it employs more than 100
1515 full-time faculty members and over 400 adjunct professors; in
1616 addition to leading the college, Dr. Ardalan has served as a guest
1717 teacher and lecturer for doctoral classes, supported a wide range
1818 of faculty initiatives, and played an instrumental role in
1919 establishing new workforce and continuing education programs,
2020 degrees, and certificates; and
2121 WHEREAS, Dr. Ardalan's previous experience includes his
2222 leadership roles at College of Southern Nevada, San Juan College,
2323 and Prairie View A&M University; moreover, he has served on
2424 numerous boards and committees, such as those for College Board,
2525 the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, Greater Houston
2626 Partnership, the Northwest Harris County chapter of the American
2727 Heart Association, and the Texas Association of Community Colleges;
2828 and
2929 WHEREAS, Among his many honors, Dr. Ardalan has been named
3030 Community College President of the Year by SAFE Diversity
3131 Communities, and he has received the Shirley B. Gordon Award from
3232 Phi Theta Kappa as well as the Carl M. Nelson Award from the Texas
3333 Association of Community Colleges; he holds a bachelor's degree in
3434 physics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a
3535 master's degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina A&T
3636 State University, and a doctorate of education in community college
3737 leadership from John Roueche Graduate Center at National American
3838 University in Austin; and
3939 WHEREAS, Through his visionary leadership and commitment to
4040 excellence, Dr. Shah Ardalan has greatly advanced the important
4141 mission of Lone Star College, and he may indeed reflect with pride
4242 on his many contributions to higher education; now, therefore, be
4343 it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4545 Legislature hereby commend Dr. Shah Ardalan for his exemplary
4646 service as president of Lone Star College-University Park and
4747 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for Dr. Ardalan as an expression of high regard by the
5050 Texas House of Representatives.
