| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary student received well-deserved |

| 6 | 6 | | recognition when Carlos Castanon was named a University of Texas at |

| 7 | 7 | | El Paso Top Ten Senior for 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Presented by the UTEP Alumni Association, the award |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | recognizes the university's most promising graduating or recently |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduated seniors; honorees are chosen on the basis of multiple |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | criteria, including academic achievement, involvement, leadership, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and service, both in the community and on campus; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, While studying mechanical engineering, Carlos |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Castanon found time to serve his peers as president of UTEP's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers/Latinos in Science and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Engineering chapter; moreover, he earned the opportunity to attend |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the SHPE National Convention, and he was chosen to represent UTEP at |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the highly selective Summer Venture in Management Program at |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Harvard Business School; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, On the way to graduating from UTEP, Mr. Castanon |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | also completed internships with Bayer and Amazon; he plans to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | acquire a few years of work experience in the industry before |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | enrolling in a graduate program at an Ivy League university, and he |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | hopes to one day establish an endowment to support future UTEP |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | engineering students; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through the dedication he has demonstrated in all |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | his endeavors, Carlos Castanon has built a strong foundation for |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | continued achievement, and he is indeed deserving of this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Carlos Castanon on his receipt of a |

| 32 | 32 | | 2023 Top Ten Seniors Award from the UTEP Alumni Association and |

| 33 | 33 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
