| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary student received well-deserved |

| 6 | 6 | | recognition when Sarah Mickelson was named a University of Texas at |

| 7 | 7 | | El Paso Top Ten Senior for 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Presented by the UTEP Alumni Association, the award |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | recognizes the university's most promising graduating or recently |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduated seniors; honorees are chosen on the basis of multiple |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | criteria, including academic achievement, involvement, leadership, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and service, both in the community and on campus; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Mickelson majored in political science, and she |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | found a passion for law and advocacy through the UTEP Law School |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Preparation Institute; a member of the Student Government |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Association, she served as a supreme court associate justice, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | supreme court chief justice, and attorney general; she was also |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | named a 2023 Truman Scholar; born and raised in Soldotna, Alaska, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | she plans to attend law school in order to help others as a public |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | defender; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through the dedication she has demonstrated in all |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | her endeavors, Sarah Mickelson has built a strong foundation for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | continued achievement, and she is indeed deserving of this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sarah Mickelson on her receipt of a |

| 27 | 27 | | 2023 Top Ten Seniors Award from the UTEP Alumni Association and |
