| 6 | 6 | | recognition when Sofia Ronquillo-Silva was named a University of |

| 7 | 7 | | Texas at El Paso Top Ten Senior for 2023; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Presented by the UTEP Alumni Association, the award |

| 9 | 9 | | recognizes the university's most promising graduating or recently |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduated seniors; honorees are chosen on the basis of multiple |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | criteria, including academic achievement, involvement, leadership, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and service, both in the community and on campus; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, While working toward her biochemistry degree, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Ms. Ronquillo-Silva was involved in the UTEP Edge initiative, which |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | allowed her to work on campus while participating in student |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | leadership and research experiences; moreover, she served as an |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | undergraduate research assistant through the MERITUS and SURPASS |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Programs sponsored by the Campus Office of Undergraduate Research |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Initiatives; she also took part in the CARES Entrepreneurship |

| 20 | 20 | | Bootcamp, the Blackstone LaunchPad Fellowship, and the Blackstone |

| 21 | 21 | | LaunchPad Innovation in Life Sciences Camp; and |

| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Ronquillo-Silva hopes to become a university |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | professor and dedicate herself to research, teaching, and |

| 24 | 24 | | mentorship; in addition, she has plans to launch a virtual platform |

| 25 | 25 | | to provide resources for female and nonbinary scientists; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through the dedication she has demonstrated in all |

| 27 | 27 | | her endeavors, Sofia Ronquillo-Silva has built a strong foundation |

| 28 | 28 | | for continued achievement, and she is indeed deserving of this |

| 29 | 29 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
