| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary student received well-deserved |

| 6 | 6 | | recognition when Ian Valdez was named a University of Texas at |

| 7 | 7 | | El Paso Top Ten Senior for 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Presented by the UTEP Alumni Association, the award |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | recognizes the university's most promising graduating or recently |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | graduated seniors; honorees are chosen on the basis of multiple |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | criteria, including academic achievement, involvement, leadership, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and service, both in the community and on campus; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Valdez attended UT Dallas, played for a soccer |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | team in Argentina, and served in the military before returning to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | his hometown to continue his education at UTEP; while completing |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | his studies as a political science major, he has attended the Law |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | School Preparation Institute and has served as an Archer Fellow in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Washington, D.C.; he also led the Green Fund Committee for two |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | years; in the future, he plans to attend law school and pursue a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | career in the judiciary; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through the dedication he has demonstrated in all |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | his endeavors, Ian Valdez has built a strong foundation for |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | continued achievement, and he is indeed deserving of this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Ian Valdez on his receipt of a 2023 |

| 27 | 27 | | Top Ten Seniors Award from the UTEP Alumni Association and extend to |
