44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Sam F. Cartwright Jr.
66 of Dumas were deeply saddened by his passing on October 10, 2022, at
77 the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Daisy Cartwright and Sam Cartwright Sr.,
99 Sam Cartwright was born in Haskell on October 30, 1944, and he grew
1010 up with the companionship of a sister, Karen; in 1962, he graduated
1111 from McAlester High School, where he ran track and was a member of
1212 the speech and debate team at Boys State; he went on to graduate
1313 from East Central University in Oklahoma and was a charter member of
1414 the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity's Epsilon Omega chapter; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Cartwright served on the city council in
1616 Chickasha, Oklahoma, in the 1970s before embarking on a 40-year
1717 career as a chamber of commerce and economic development
1818 professional; he taught at the University of Oklahoma Economic
1919 Development Institute for a time, and in 1985, he was named the
2020 Oklahoma Chamber Executive of the Year; in December 2002, he became
2121 the president/CEO of the Dumas/Moore County Chamber of Commerce, a
2222 position he held until his retirement in 2017; over the course of
2323 his tenure with the chamber, he actively promoted tourism and
2424 growth in the community and distinguished himself through his
2525 tireless support of Moore County and its residents; in addition, he
2626 was a dedicated member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club and served as
2727 head wrangler for the 2017 Dogie Days celebration; and
2828 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Cartwright enjoyed the
2929 love and support of his wife, Dianna, with whom he shared 54
3030 rewarding years of marriage; he took great pride in his son, John,
3131 and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include a
3232 granddaughter, Daryl; and
3333 WHEREAS, Sam Cartwright lived a life that was rich in family,
3434 friends, and community service, and those who were privileged to
3535 share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their
3636 hearts; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sam F. Cartwright Jr.
3939 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
4040 wife, Dianna Cartwright; to his son, John Cartwright; to his
4141 granddaughter, Daryl Cartwright; and to his other relatives and
4242 friends; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4545 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sam
4646 Cartwright.
