5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Sam F. Cartwright Jr. |

6 | 6 | | of Dumas were deeply saddened by his passing on October 10, 2022, at |

7 | 7 | | the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Daisy Cartwright and Sam Cartwright Sr., |
---|
9 | 9 | | Sam Cartwright was born in Haskell on October 30, 1944, and he grew |
---|
10 | 10 | | up with the companionship of a sister, Karen; in 1962, he graduated |
---|
11 | 11 | | from McAlester High School, where he ran track and was a member of |
---|
12 | 12 | | the speech and debate team at Boys State; he went on to graduate |
---|
13 | 13 | | from East Central University in Oklahoma and was a charter member of |
---|
14 | 14 | | the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity's Epsilon Omega chapter; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cartwright served on the city council in |
---|
16 | 16 | | Chickasha, Oklahoma, in the 1970s before embarking on a 40-year |
---|
17 | 17 | | career as a chamber of commerce and economic development |
---|
18 | 18 | | professional; he taught at the University of Oklahoma Economic |
---|
19 | 19 | | Development Institute for a time, and in 1985, he was named the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Oklahoma Chamber Executive of the Year; in December 2002, he became |
---|
21 | 21 | | the president/CEO of the Dumas/Moore County Chamber of Commerce, a |
---|
22 | 22 | | position he held until his retirement in 2017; over the course of |
---|
23 | 23 | | his tenure with the chamber, he actively promoted tourism and |
---|
24 | 24 | | growth in the community and distinguished himself through his |
---|
25 | 25 | | tireless support of Moore County and its residents; in addition, he |
---|
26 | 26 | | was a dedicated member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club and served as |
---|
27 | 27 | | head wrangler for the 2017 Dogie Days celebration; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Cartwright enjoyed the |
---|
29 | 29 | | love and support of his wife, Dianna, with whom he shared 54 |
---|
30 | 30 | | rewarding years of marriage; he took great pride in his son, John, |
---|
31 | 31 | | and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include a |
---|
32 | 32 | | granddaughter, Daryl; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Sam Cartwright lived a life that was rich in family, |
---|
34 | 34 | | friends, and community service, and those who were privileged to |
---|
35 | 35 | | share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their |
---|
36 | 36 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sam F. Cartwright Jr. |
---|
39 | 39 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
---|
40 | 40 | | wife, Dianna Cartwright; to his son, John Cartwright; to his |
---|
41 | 41 | | granddaughter, Daryl Cartwright; and to his other relatives and |
---|
42 | 42 | | friends; and, be it further |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
