5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Forsythe is retiring as director of education |
---|
6 | 6 | | and meetings for the Texas Veterinary Medical Association in 2023, |
---|
7 | 7 | | drawing to a close a noteworthy career spanning 37 years; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Initially hired as a receptionist, Ms. Forsythe was |
---|
9 | 9 | | asked to plan the association's annual conference; she proved |
---|
10 | 10 | | highly skillful, and under her leadership, the conference grew to |
---|
11 | 11 | | attract more than 4,000 attendees and included a trade show with |
---|
12 | 12 | | over 200 booths; in 2003, the year she became a Certified Meeting |
---|
13 | 13 | | Professional, TVMA joined forces with its counterparts in Oklahoma, |
---|
14 | 14 | | Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico to launch the Southwest |
---|
15 | 15 | | Veterinary Symposium; TVMA continues to host an annual conference |
---|
16 | 16 | | with more than 350 veterinarians and nearly as many veterinary |
---|
17 | 17 | | students, licensed veterinary technicians, certified veterinary |
---|
18 | 18 | | assistants, and others; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Forsythe's many responsibilities in advance of |
---|
20 | 20 | | conferences have ranged from site selection, contract negotiation, |
---|
21 | 21 | | and sponsorship recruitment to marketing, booth sales, and on-site |
---|
22 | 22 | | management; widely known in the meeting-planning industry, she |
---|
23 | 23 | | serves on the board of the Meeting Professionals International |
---|
24 | 24 | | Texas Hill Country Chapter; she has received many accolades from |
---|
25 | 25 | | the group, among them the President's Award and two Volunteer of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Year Awards; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, During her long tenure with TVMA, Ms. Forsythe has |
---|
28 | 28 | | worked closely with the continuing education and conference |
---|
29 | 29 | | committee to provide hundreds of hours of continuing education for |
---|
30 | 30 | | veterinarians; she has also served as support staff for the ethics |
---|
31 | 31 | | and grievance committee, which has relied on her patience and |
---|
32 | 32 | | compassion in fielding calls from distressed pet owners; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Forsythe has greatly benefited TVMA through |
---|
34 | 34 | | her professionalism and commitment to excellence, and as she |
---|
35 | 35 | | embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life, she may indeed |
---|
36 | 36 | | reflect with pride on her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Ellen Forsythe on her retirement |
---|
39 | 39 | | from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and extend to her |
---|
40 | 40 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
