44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Ellen Forsythe is retiring as director of education
66 and meetings for the Texas Veterinary Medical Association in 2023,
77 drawing to a close a noteworthy career spanning 37 years; and
88 WHEREAS, Initially hired as a receptionist, Ms. Forsythe was
99 asked to plan the association's annual conference; she proved
1010 highly skillful, and under her leadership, the conference grew to
1111 attract more than 4,000 attendees and included a trade show with
1212 over 200 booths; in 2003, the year she became a Certified Meeting
1313 Professional, TVMA joined forces with its counterparts in Oklahoma,
1414 Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Mexico to launch the Southwest
1515 Veterinary Symposium; TVMA continues to host an annual conference
1616 with more than 350 veterinarians and nearly as many veterinary
1717 students, licensed veterinary technicians, certified veterinary
1818 assistants, and others; and
1919 WHEREAS, Ms. Forsythe's many responsibilities in advance of
2020 conferences have ranged from site selection, contract negotiation,
2121 and sponsorship recruitment to marketing, booth sales, and on-site
2222 management; widely known in the meeting-planning industry, she
2323 serves on the board of the Meeting Professionals International
2424 Texas Hill Country Chapter; she has received many accolades from
2525 the group, among them the President's Award and two Volunteer of the
2626 Year Awards; and
2727 WHEREAS, During her long tenure with TVMA, Ms. Forsythe has
2828 worked closely with the continuing education and conference
2929 committee to provide hundreds of hours of continuing education for
3030 veterinarians; she has also served as support staff for the ethics
3131 and grievance committee, which has relied on her patience and
3232 compassion in fielding calls from distressed pet owners; and
3333 WHEREAS, Ellen Forsythe has greatly benefited TVMA through
3434 her professionalism and commitment to excellence, and as she
3535 embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life, she may indeed
3636 reflect with pride on her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby congratulate Ellen Forsythe on her retirement
3939 from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and extend to her
4040 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for Ms. Forsythe as an expression of high regard by the
4343 Texas House of Representatives.
