5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The El Paso Veterans & Riders Association has |

6 | 6 | | rendered exceptional service to the local military community; and |

7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established on November 1, 2013, the EPVRA is one of |
---|
8 | 8 | | the leading veterans' associations in El Paso, and it coordinates |
---|
9 | 9 | | efforts with the U.S. military, the Texas Army National Guard, the |
---|
10 | 10 | | State of Texas, the City of El Paso, El Paso County, and other area |
---|
11 | 11 | | communities; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Through these collaborations, the EPVRA has helped |
---|
13 | 13 | | to improve quality of life for local veterans, their families, Fort |
---|
14 | 14 | | Bliss personnel, Texas Army National Guard soldiers, and the wider |
---|
15 | 15 | | El Paso community; the organization's many initiatives and events |
---|
16 | 16 | | include annual food drives, raffles, concerts, and car shows; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In recent months, the EPVRA has worked with El Paso |
---|
18 | 18 | | County Tax Assessor-Collector Ruben P. Gonzalez, State |
---|
19 | 19 | | Representative Claudia Ordaz, State Representative Evelina "Lina" |
---|
20 | 20 | | Ortega, and State Senator César Blanco in support of House Bill |
---|
21 | 21 | | 1633, which aims to reduce parking penalties for veterans with |
---|
22 | 22 | | disabilities; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The EPVRA benefits from the able leadership of |
---|
24 | 24 | | president Darrell G. Mond, a former U.S. Army armor officer, vice |
---|
25 | 25 | | president Marco A. Pastrana, a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd |
---|
26 | 26 | | Airborne Division, and board members Don Parrott, a veteran of the |
---|
27 | 27 | | U.S. Army and an employee of the Texas Veterans' Land Board, Rodney |
---|
28 | 28 | | Washington, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and an employee of the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Texas Workforce Commission, and Jonathan Bohannon, a veteran of the |
---|
30 | 30 | | U.S. Army and current program director of Veterans' Services at |
---|
31 | 31 | | Emergence Health Network; the organization has also received |
---|
32 | 32 | | valuable contributions from Jason Durden, a veteran of the U.S. |
---|
33 | 33 | | Marine Corps and current El Paso Deputy Constable for Precinct 4; |
---|

35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Through its efforts to raise awareness and foster |

36 | 36 | | support for Texas veterans and their families, the EPVRA has set an |

37 | 37 | | outstanding example of civic engagement, and the organization is to |

38 | 38 | | be commended for its many achievements; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby honor the El Paso Veterans & Riders Association |
---|
41 | 41 | | for its service to the community and extend to all those associated |
---|
42 | 42 | | with the organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it |
