44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The El Paso Veterans & Riders Association has
66 rendered exceptional service to the local military community; and
77 WHEREAS, Established on November 1, 2013, the EPVRA is one of
88 the leading veterans' associations in El Paso, and it coordinates
99 efforts with the U.S. military, the Texas Army National Guard, the
1010 State of Texas, the City of El Paso, El Paso County, and other area
1111 communities; and
1212 WHEREAS, Through these collaborations, the EPVRA has helped
1313 to improve quality of life for local veterans, their families, Fort
1414 Bliss personnel, Texas Army National Guard soldiers, and the wider
1515 El Paso community; the organization's many initiatives and events
1616 include annual food drives, raffles, concerts, and car shows; and
1717 WHEREAS, In recent months, the EPVRA has worked with El Paso
1818 County Tax Assessor-Collector Ruben P. Gonzalez, State
1919 Representative Claudia Ordaz, State Representative Evelina "Lina"
2020 Ortega, and State Senator César Blanco in support of House Bill
2121 1633, which aims to reduce parking penalties for veterans with
2222 disabilities; and
2323 WHEREAS, The EPVRA benefits from the able leadership of
2424 president Darrell G. Mond, a former U.S. Army armor officer, vice
2525 president Marco A. Pastrana, a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd
2626 Airborne Division, and board members Don Parrott, a veteran of the
2727 U.S. Army and an employee of the Texas Veterans' Land Board, Rodney
2828 Washington, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and an employee of the
2929 Texas Workforce Commission, and Jonathan Bohannon, a veteran of the
3030 U.S. Army and current program director of Veterans' Services at
3131 Emergence Health Network; the organization has also received
3232 valuable contributions from Jason Durden, a veteran of the U.S.
3333 Marine Corps and current El Paso Deputy Constable for Precinct 4;
3434 and
3535 WHEREAS, Through its efforts to raise awareness and foster
3636 support for Texas veterans and their families, the EPVRA has set an
3737 outstanding example of civic engagement, and the organization is to
3838 be commended for its many achievements; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby honor the El Paso Veterans & Riders Association
4141 for its service to the community and extend to all those associated
4242 with the organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
4343 further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for the EPVRA as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4646 House of Representatives.
