44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Duncanville High School girls' track team proved
66 itself one of the finest in Texas by winning the 6A championship at
77 the 2023 University Interscholastic League Track & Field State
88 Meet; and
99 WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors at
1010 Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 13, the Pantherettes
1111 outscored their nearest opponent by 10 points to claim the 6A crown;
1212 Duncanville turned in outstanding performances in the relay events;
1313 the quartet of Ashley Lister, Aaliyah Gipson, Sanyah Keeton, and
1414 De'Kayla Simpson placed second in the 400-meter event with a time of
1515 45.55 seconds, and the same group of runners clocked in at 1 minute,
1616 36.03 seconds, to claim the silver medal in the 800-meter relay; in
1717 addition, a squad made up of Ms. Lister, Ms. Gipson, Ms. Simpson,
1818 and Kayli Hill captured fourth place in the 1,600-meter race,
1919 crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 45.60 seconds; and
2020 WHEREAS, In the individual events, Indyia Walton added to the
2121 Pantherettes' winning total; she collected the bronze medal in the
2222 300-meter hurdles with a time of 42.44 seconds and earned fourth
2323 place in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.13 seconds;
2424 Duncanville also received valuable contributions throughout the
2525 season from Kennedy Brown, who ran with the 800-meter and
2626 1,600-meter squads; and
2727 WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes were ably guided by
2828 head coach Yvette Green and assistant coaches Coy Square, James
2929 Williams, William James, and Steven Duren, and they received
3030 additional support from head trainer Alec Hawkins, trainers Ricky
3131 Webster and Paola Cabrera, and manager Corian Smith; and
3232 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
3333 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
3434 commitment to excellence, and the Duncanville High School
3535 Pantherettes may reflect with pride on a job well done; now,
3636 therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3838 Legislature hereby congratulate the Duncanville High School girls'
3939 track team on winning the 2023 UIL 6A state championship and extend
4040 to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
4141 continued success; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for the Pantherettes as an expression of high regard by the
4444 Texas House of Representatives.
