H.R. No. 2008
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Mark Henry is retiring as superintendent of the
Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District on December 31,
2023, drawing to a close an exemplary career in education that has
spanned more than four decades; and
WHEREAS, Since taking the helm of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in
2011, Dr. Henry has guided the district through a period of
significant growth, including the addition of nine new campuses and
the passage of two bond programs to address increased enrollment
through facility renovations, transportation upgrades, and safety
and security enhancements; under his leadership, the district
improved academic achievement and earned an A rating from the Texas
Education Agency; in addition, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD earned the
H-E-B Excellence in Education Award and was named Best Overall in
Academic Performance and Financial Performance by the Education
Resource Group; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Henry previously served as superintendent of
the Galena Park, Sulphur Springs, Collinsville, and Milford
Independent School Districts; he holds a bachelor's degree from The
University of Texas at Arlington and a master's degree and
doctorate from the University of North Texas; he has been named the
Education Service Center Region 4 Superintendent of the Year and
the Association of Texas Professional Educators Texas
Administrator of the Year, and he was a finalist for the Texas
Superintendent of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed educator is a member of the Texas
Association of School Administrators, and he has served as chair of
the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council, as vice
chair of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, and chair of the
Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce; he is currently a trustee of
the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation Leadership Committee and HCA
Houston Healthcare; and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Henry enjoys the love and
support of a fine family that includes his wife, Cindy, and their
three children and seven grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Through his professionalism, dedication, and
commitment to excellence, Mark Henry has earned the respect and
admiration of his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect with pride
on his many contributions as he begins the next exciting chapter of
his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mark Henry on his retirement as
superintendent of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School
District and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Henry as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
