| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |

| 6 | 6 | | those saddened by the passing of Alberto Maldonado of Kingsville on |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | April 28, 2023, at the age of 93; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Librado and Ella Maldonado, "Beto" |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Maldonado was born in Kingsville on January 16, 1930, and he grew up |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | with the companionship of five siblings, Alicia, Aurora, Amelia, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Placido, and Lee; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Maldonado was a longtime employee of the King |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Ranch, and over the course of his 80-year career there, he worked in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the single and multiple sire herd division and traveled the world |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | introducing the Santa Gertrudis breed of cattle, which the ranch |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | developed; his many adventures included parading a 2,900-pound |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | bull, Macho, through the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and transporting 21 bulls by air to Casablanca; after his |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | retirement from cattle operations, he served the King Ranch Visitor |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Center as a tour guide, and he continued to give generously of his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | time to the center as the years went on; in 2009, he published the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | book The Master Showmen of King Ranch: The Story of Beto and Librado |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Maldonado, which tells the story of his and his father's eventful |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | lives on the ranch; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Maldonado shared a rewarding marriage with his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | wife, Dora, that spanned nearly seven decades before her passing in |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 2016; he was the proud father of five children, Dora, Norma, Samuel, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Albert, and Catalina, and with the passing years, he had the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | privilege of seeing his family grow to include 7 grandchildren, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Sonia, Veronica, Samantha, Mario, Monica, Tracy, and Daniel, and 12 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | great-grandchildren, Andres, Makayla, Dylyn, Carlos, Samuel, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Landon, Kinley, Caroline, Finn, Lorraine, Tre, and Molly, and 2 |

| 33 | 33 | | great-great-grandchildren, Mylah and Liam; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Beto Maldonado brings |

| 35 | 35 | | immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a |

| 36 | 36 | | legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alberto Maldonado and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further |

| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 42 | 42 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Beto |
