| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Nikki |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Roquemore Calhoun of Palestine, who passed away on February 25, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 2023, at the age of 79; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Abb Leroy Roquemore II and Eva Grace |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Roquemore, Nikki Calhoun was born on March 4, 1943, in Palestine and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | grew up with the companionship of two brothers, Abb and Marc; she |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | graduated from Palestine High School in 1961 and continued her |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | studies at Sam Houston State University; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of four decades, Mrs. Calhoun |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | enjoyed a fulfilling career in education; she served as a teacher |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and as principal of Southside Elementary School before retiring |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | from the Palestine Independent School District in 2009; an engaged |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | member of her community, she was actively involved with the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Palestine Public Library Board, and she also belonged to the Texas |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her husband, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Ronald Ray Calhoun; she was a devoted mother to her son, Cameron, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and with the passing years, she had the privilege of welcoming into |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | her family four beloved grandchildren, Hallie, Jackson, George, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Harry; in her leisure time, she liked to read, garden, and play |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | tennis; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, While her loss is difficult to bear, Nikki Roquemore |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Calhoun leaves behind numerous friends and loved ones whose lives |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | are far richer for having known her, and she will always hold a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Nikki Roquemore |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Calhoun and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | passing; and, be it further |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 35 | 35 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nikki |
