44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Dr. Arnold J. Morris Jr. of Arlington on April 11, 2023,
77 at the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Arnold Morris Sr. and Evelyn Morris,
99 A. J. Morris was born in Archer City on November 12, 1945, and he
1010 grew up with the companionship of two siblings, Burk and Julie; he
1111 graduated from Archer City High School in 1964 and went on to attend
1212 The University of Texas at Austin before enlisting in the U.S. Army
1313 during the Vietnam War; over the course of his six years of service,
1414 he earned the rank of captain and received a number of military
1515 honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze
1616 Star Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Vietnam
1717 Service Medal; and
1818 WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Dr. Morris
1919 earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Health
2020 Science Center at San Antonio and subsequently embarked on a
2121 rewarding career as a physician that spanned four decades, during
2222 which he helped countless patients through his skilled and
2323 compassionate care; active in his community, he was a member of
2424 American Legion Post No. 198 and Archer Masonic Lodge No. 708; and
2525 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Morris enjoyed the love
2626 and support of his wife, Deborah, and he took great pride in his two
2727 sons, Arnold J. and John; with the passing years, he had the
2828 privilege of seeing his family grow to include three grandchildren,
2929 Archer, Jett, and Hattie; he was known for his love of animals and
3030 his dry sense of humor, and in his leisure time, he enjoyed keeping
3131 up with the news; and
3232 WHEREAS, Although A. J. Morris will be deeply missed, he has
3333 left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will
3434 forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3636 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Arnold J. Morris
3737 Jr. and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his passing;
3838 and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4141 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
4242 A. J. Morris.
