5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Dr. Arnold J. Morris Jr. of Arlington on April 11, 2023, |
---|
7 | 7 | | at the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Arnold Morris Sr. and Evelyn Morris, |
---|
9 | 9 | | A. J. Morris was born in Archer City on November 12, 1945, and he |
---|
10 | 10 | | grew up with the companionship of two siblings, Burk and Julie; he |
---|
11 | 11 | | graduated from Archer City High School in 1964 and went on to attend |
---|
12 | 12 | | The University of Texas at Austin before enlisting in the U.S. Army |
---|
13 | 13 | | during the Vietnam War; over the course of his six years of service, |
---|
14 | 14 | | he earned the rank of captain and received a number of military |
---|
15 | 15 | | honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Bronze |
---|
16 | 16 | | Star Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Vietnam |
---|
17 | 17 | | Service Medal; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Dr. Morris |
---|
19 | 19 | | earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Health |
---|
20 | 20 | | Science Center at San Antonio and subsequently embarked on a |
---|
21 | 21 | | rewarding career as a physician that spanned four decades, during |
---|
22 | 22 | | which he helped countless patients through his skilled and |
---|
23 | 23 | | compassionate care; active in his community, he was a member of |
---|
24 | 24 | | American Legion Post No. 198 and Archer Masonic Lodge No. 708; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Morris enjoyed the love |
---|
26 | 26 | | and support of his wife, Deborah, and he took great pride in his two |
---|
27 | 27 | | sons, Arnold J. and John; with the passing years, he had the |
---|
28 | 28 | | privilege of seeing his family grow to include three grandchildren, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Archer, Jett, and Hattie; he was known for his love of animals and |
---|
30 | 30 | | his dry sense of humor, and in his leisure time, he enjoyed keeping |
---|
31 | 31 | | up with the news; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Although A. J. Morris will be deeply missed, he has |
---|
33 | 33 | | left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will |
---|
34 | 34 | | forever treasure; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Arnold J. Morris |
---|
37 | 37 | | Jr. and extend heartfelt condolences to all who mourn his passing; |
---|
38 | 38 | | and, be it further |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

40 | 40 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

41 | 41 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
