| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Valley Spring United Methodist Church in Llano |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | County is marking the 120th anniversary of its historic house of |

| 7 | 7 | | worship in 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The congregation was first organized in 1881 as |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Methodist Episcopal Church South; constructing its first sanctuary |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | on land deeded to the congregation by Sarah Phillips, the church |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | sold the land back to the original owner in 1902, and the structure |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | became an annex for the one-room school in Valley Spring; that same |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | year, M. G. and Phena Owen deeded two lots on Main Street to the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | congregation, and in 1903 the church built a new wooden sanctuary |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with a metal roof and a bell and steeple over the front doors, where |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | it continues to hold services today; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Valley Spring United Methodist |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Church has benefited from the dedicated efforts of many outstanding |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | clergy, and the church has provided a setting for important rites of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | passage in the lives of area residents; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Valley Spring UMC has long served as a source of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | continued existence of its historic church home is a testament to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the unwavering commitment of its members, both past and present; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor Valley Spring United Methodist Church in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Llano County on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | church's sanctuary and extend to its congregants sincere best |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
