| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, College Board is a national nonprofit organization |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | dedicated to promoting excellence and equity in education, and it |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | also administers a number of college readiness and success |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | programs, including the Advanced Placement Program; the AP Computer |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Science Female Diversity Award honors schools that have achieved |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | either 50 percent or higher representation of female exam takers in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | one or both AP computer science courses, or a percentage of female |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | exam takers that meets or exceeds that of the school's female |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | population; of the 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, fewer |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | than 1,200 schools nationwide reached that worthy goal; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Historically, female students have remained |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | underrepresented in computer science classes, and according to the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | National Girls Collaborative Project, women represent just 26 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | percent of professionals in the fields of computer and mathematical |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | sciences today; and |

| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Providing female students with access to computer |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | science courses is vital to ensuring gender parity within the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | industry, and the AP Computer Science program at Bellaire High |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | School is empowering young women to build an even brighter future as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | they work to become the next generation of STEM and computer science |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | professionals; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bellaire High School on its receipt |

| 31 | 31 | | of the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award from College |
