44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Over the course of some 60 years, Pat Stone has
66 played an indispensable role in keeping the children of Lewisville
77 safe on their way to and from school; and
88 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Lewisville, Ms. Stone helped
99 lead the effort to establish crossing guards for local schools
1010 after becoming concerned about students negotiating the traffic on
1111 area streets; she recruited assistance from a state trooper to
1212 learn the details of the job and soon began service as the first
1313 crossing guard in the city's history; and
1414 WHEREAS, Ms. Stone has continued her dedicated efforts
1515 through the years and has long served as a guard for Southridge
1616 Elementary School; today, six decades after beginning her duties,
1717 she is still safeguarding students; in recognition of her
1818 exceptional efforts, the City of Lewisville Facebook group declared
1919 that May 1 will be celebrated annually as Ms. Pat "the Crossing
2020 Guard" Appreciation Day; and
2121 WHEREAS, Through her deep commitment to the children of
2222 Lewisville, Pat Stone has earned the lasting respect and gratitude
2323 of area families and school personnel, and she may take justifiable
2424 pride in her important contributions; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2626 Legislature hereby honor Pat Stone for her many years of service as
2727 a crossing guard in Lewisville and extend to her sincere best wishes
2828 for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3030 prepared for Ms. Stone as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3131 House of Representatives.
