5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Flossie Mae Hubbard Johnson, an esteemed member of |

6 | 6 | | Houston's Kashmere Gardens community for more than seven decades, |
---|
7 | 7 | | passed away on April 1, 2023, at the age of 108; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born to Garfield and Lonia Hubbard on September 27, |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1914, the former Flossie Hubbard grew up with two sisters and three |
---|
10 | 10 | | brothers in Black Land, a small farming community; she attended |
---|
11 | 11 | | school in nearby Trinity; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1935, she relocated to Houston's Fifth Ward, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | she married Wayne Wright Johnson the following year; the couple was |
---|
14 | 14 | | blessed with four children, and through the years, their treasured |
---|
15 | 15 | | family grew to include seven grandchildren and five |
---|
16 | 16 | | great-grandchildren; Mr. Johnson preceded his wife in death; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Johnson settled in Kashmere Gardens in 1952; |
---|
18 | 18 | | known by the nickname "Butte," she set an inspiring example of civic |
---|
19 | 19 | | engagement, giving generously of her time and talents in support of |
---|
20 | 20 | | local schools and the electoral process; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. Johnson joined Zion Hill |
---|
22 | 22 | | Missionary Baptist Church in 1952 and remained active in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | congregation; she enjoyed walking to worship services, reading the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Houston Chronicle, growing vegetables, and baking tasty pies and |
---|
25 | 25 | | cakes; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Although Flossie Johnson is deeply missed, she has |
---|
27 | 27 | | left her family and friends with a host of cherished memories, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | she will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, |
---|
29 | 29 | | therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Flossie Mae Hubbard |
---|
32 | 32 | | Johnson and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her |
---|
33 | 33 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

35 | 35 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
