| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Federation of Korean Associations USA |

| 6 | 6 | | celebrated Korean American Day on January 13, 2023; and |

| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Just over 100 emigrants from Korea arrived in Hawaii |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | on January 13, 1903, commencing the first significant wave of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Korean immigration to the U.S.; since then, Korean Americans have |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | made many vital contributions to our country, including |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | distinguished service in the military during our nation's wars, as |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | well as significant achievements in science, medicine, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | engineering, architecture, art, literature, and the performing |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | arts; in 2005, both houses of the U.S. Congress passed resolutions |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | recognizing the contributions of Korean Americans and encouraging |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the celebration of Korean American Day every January 13th; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Representing more than 2.7 million Korean |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Americans, the Federation of Korean Associations USA is dedicated |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to supporting the activities of Korean American associations across |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the United States; these organizations work to advance the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | interests of the Korean American community, celebrate Korean |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | culture and history, and promote volunteer and community service |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | opportunities; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, On the anniversary of the arrival of the first wave |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Korean immigrants to our nation, it is a great pleasure to join |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | with the Federation of Korean Associations USA in celebrating the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | vibrancy of Korean American culture and the myriad accomplishments |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | of Korean Americans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby recognize January 13, 2023, as Korean American |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Day and extend to all those associated with the Federation of Korean |
