| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jon Whatley concluded his tenure on the Odem-Edroy |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Independent School District Board of Trustees in May 2023, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | following two decades of exemplary service; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Whatley was first appointed to the Odem-Edroy |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | school board in July 2004 and eventually rose to the position of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | president; over the course of his tenure on the board, he worked |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | tirelessly in behalf of the district, which has grown to serve |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | approximately 900 students across its four campuses; he also |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | highlighted the importance of collective decision-making, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | through the years, he drew inspiration from his mother, who served |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | on the Odem-Edroy school board for 18 years; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Active in numerous other community endeavors, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Mr. Whatley has given generously of his time to such organizations |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | as the Odem Little League, which he served as a board member and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | baseball coach; moreover, he is a former president of the South |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Texas Cotton and Grain Association and has lent his expertise as a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | director for the Producers Caucus of the National Cotton Council; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Kelly, and their two children, Payne and Jackson; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Jon Whatley's hard work, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the students of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Odem-Edroy ISD and earned the respect and admiration of his peers, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | and his contributions will resonate in the community for years to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commend Jon Whatley for his service to the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Odem-Edroy Independent School District Board of Trustees and extend |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
