5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The passing of John W. Fainter Jr. of Austin on |
---|
6 | 6 | | August 29, 2020, at the age of 81, concluded a remarkable life of |
---|
7 | 7 | | service to his fellow Texans; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, John Fainter was born to Ruth and John Wells Fainter |
---|
9 | 9 | | on April 20, 1939, in Pecos and was raised in Austin alongside his |
---|
10 | 10 | | brother, Robert; a proud alumnus of Austin High School, he |
---|
11 | 11 | | continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin, where |
---|
12 | 12 | | he earned both a bachelor of arts degree and a law degree; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. Fainter accepted a |
---|
14 | 14 | | position as an investigator with the State Securities Board, |
---|
15 | 15 | | embarking on a successful career in public service that would span |
---|
16 | 16 | | more than half a century; he subsequently served as first assistant |
---|
17 | 17 | | attorney general of Texas and as secretary of state, and he later |
---|
18 | 18 | | became the chief of staff for Governor Ann Richards; he also worked |
---|
19 | 19 | | with a regional investment firm and was president and CEO of the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Association of Electric Companies of Texas; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fainter further benefited the State of Texas |
---|
22 | 22 | | through his leadership roles with the Public Safety Commission, the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Governor's Select Committee on Water Quality Standards for Colorado |
---|
24 | 24 | | River, and various other committees; moreover, he served on |
---|
25 | 25 | | numerous UT Austin boards and councils, earning the university's |
---|
26 | 26 | | Distinguished Alumnus Award as well as honorary membership with the |
---|
27 | 27 | | law school's Order of the Coif; admired for his keen insight and |
---|
28 | 28 | | quiet confidence, he acted as a mentor and advisor to countless |
---|
29 | 29 | | people through the years; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Fainter drew strength from |
---|
31 | 31 | | the rewarding marriage he shared with his wife, Susan, and he took |
---|
32 | 32 | | great pride in his three children, John, Mary, and Jenny; with the |
---|
33 | 33 | | passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
---|
34 | 34 | | include seven grandchildren, Riley, Ryan, Wells, Doug, William, |
---|
35 | 35 | | Sarah, and Grace; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a dedicated public servant, |
---|
37 | 37 | | John Fainter leaves behind a legacy of good works that will long |
---|
38 | 38 | | resonate in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John W. Fainter Jr. |
---|
41 | 41 | | and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
---|
42 | 42 | | it further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
44 | 44 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
45 | 45 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John |
---|
