5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The city of Houston lost a beloved civic leader and |

6 | 6 | | educator with the passing of Etta Crockett on May 7, 2023, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 68; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Willie and Ince Crockett, Etta |
---|
9 | 9 | | Crockett was born on July 6, 1954, and she grew up in Houston's |
---|
10 | 10 | | Acres Homes neighborhood; following her graduation from George |
---|
11 | 11 | | Washington Carver High School in 1972, she attended Prairie View |
---|
12 | 12 | | A&M University and went on to enjoy a rewarding career as a teacher |
---|
13 | 13 | | before retiring from the Aldine Independent School District; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Deeply engaged in the community, Ms. Crockett was a |
---|
15 | 15 | | lifelong supporter of the Democratic Party and served as Harris |
---|
16 | 16 | | County Precinct 109 chair; moreover, she worked on numerous |
---|
17 | 17 | | political campaigns through the years, helping to elect many of the |
---|
18 | 18 | | city's most prominent office holders at the local, state, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | national levels; she also contributed greatly to a number of |
---|
20 | 20 | | initiatives designed to enhance the quality of life of her fellow |
---|
21 | 21 | | citizens, and on March 29, 2023, she was recognized by the City of |
---|
22 | 22 | | Houston for her many years of tireless support and loyal service; |
---|
23 | 23 | | and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Although Etta Crockett's death has brought great |
---|
25 | 25 | | sorrow to those who loved her, her life was an inspiring example of |
---|
26 | 26 | | the good that one person can accomplish, and her legacy will be a |
---|
27 | 27 | | continuing source of inspiration in the years ahead; now, |
---|
28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Etta Crockett and |
---|
31 | 31 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her |
---|
32 | 32 | | sisters, Delores Long and Ella Crockett; to her brothers, Carl |
---|
33 | 33 | | Crockett and Maurice Crockett; to her niece, Sherita Taylor; to her |
---|
34 | 34 | | loving companion, R. C. Jones; and to her other relatives and |

35 | 35 | | friends; and, be it further |
