H.R. No. 2114 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of admired Pastor Louis Charles Sidney Sr. on May 13, 2023, at the age of 70; and WHEREAS, The son of Pastor Elijah J. Sidney and Burlee Sidney, Louis Sidney was born in Houston on July 21, 1952, and he grew up as the sixth of nine children; learning from his father, he was sustained by a strong faith from an early age; and WHEREAS, Pastor Sidney graduated from Conroe Normal and Real Bible Seminary with a degree in theology and went on to earn his doctorate in divinity from the Inter-Baptist Theological Center; in 1984, he was installed as pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church; he served the congregation with wisdom and compassion ever after, and he was known as a dynamic and inspiring speaker; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping anyone in need, Pastor Sidney fed the hungry and cared for those who were suffering; he reached out to the community and local schools in order to improve the lives of senior citizens and young people; the dean of the Progressive Peaceful Union District Association, he also worked closely with the Settegast Improvement Council; he served as a chaplain for the Houston Police Department and as president of the department's Northeast Multicultural Coalition; in addition, he was a member of Ministers Against Crime and the Ministers Coalition of Harris County and Vicinity; and WHEREAS, Pastor Sidney shared a fulfilling union of more than 30 years with the former Katie Taylor, and they were blessed with two sons and three daughters; following her passing, he was fortunate enough to find love a second time with the former Darlene Carson, with whom he enjoyed nearly two decades of marriage; through the years, he had the pleasure of welcoming many grandchildren into his family; and WHEREAS, Although Pastor Louis Sidney will be deeply missed by those he left behind, the passage of time will never diminish the joy, love, and kindness that he brought into the lives of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Pastor Louis Charles Sidney Sr. and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pastor Sidney.
